Role: Operational Analysis Consultant

Salary: from £35000 plus a competitive benefits package including pension (7% company contribution), additional holiday purchase options and life assurance
Location: South Coast Region


Intro

Sirius Analysis, we are a rapidly growing consultancy firm, renowned for our reputation and our keen ability to understand and meet customer requirements effectively. Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, end-to-end consultancy services, ranging from risk and investment analysis to P3M. We operate across multiple sectors, including defence, energy, and Nuclear. We are looking for Operational Analysis Consultants to join our OA team as we go through our next phase of growth.


The Role

As an Operational Analysis Consultant, your role will be crucial in delivering informed, client-focused decision support across a diverse range of industries, including the UK MOD and NATO. You'll participate in projects that demand a keen ability to assess, analyse, and meet client-specific needs using rigorous analytical approaches, thereby fostering internal growth and enhancing our client relations. Consultants work under the guidance and mentorship of more senior staff and are expected to take leadership of project sub-tasks to deliver high-quality project outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering technical consulting projects.
  • Building new relationships and maintaining current customer relationships.
  • Applying OA methods to tackle real world problems, applying tools and techniques, and developing novel approaches where required.

About You

The successful candidate will have experience in:

  • Operational Analysis to support business decision making, policy development, and / or research, including both ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ techniques (problem structuring and modelling). Techniques include (list in non-exhaustive):
    • Simulation (System Dynamics or Discrete Event Simulation)
    • Statistics
    • Data Analysis
    • Data Science
    • Cost Effectiveness Analysis (CEA) and Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA)
    • Process and conceptual mapping (e.g. influence diagrams)
    • Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA)
    • Benefits analysis
    • Wargaming
    • Designing and facilitating workshops (including Military Judgement Panels),
    • Historical Analysis
    • Portfolio, programme, and project management (including schedule and risk analysis).
  • Ability to develop and apply analytical methods and models.
  • Ability to foster robust customer and stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to work in complex, dynamic situations requiring both team and independent working and creativity.
  • Competent in the composition and presentation of technical reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

The following are desirable:

  • Experience working with Defence Digital, DE&S, Dstl, Frontline Commands, UK Defence industry, NATO.
  • Business development and bid writing.
  • Data manipulation and analysis languages (VBA, SQL, R, Python).
  • Business acumen and commercial awareness.
  • Experienced in fostering robust customer and stakeholder relationships.
  • Influence strategic decision makers.
  • An understanding of UK Government guidance and requirements relating to the delivery of analysis and Business Cases (AQUA and GREEN Books).
  • Be a member of an appropriate professional body (e.g. Operational Research Society, APM, IMA) and have a desire for further professional development.
  • Be located in, or able to work from, the Portsmouth area multiple days a week.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent relevant experience.

Other Requirements

  • Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
  • Candidates must be willing to undergo an internal baseline personnel security standard check prior to starting their employment with the company.
  • Candidates must be willing and eligible to complete a United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) security clearance application to the Security Check (SC) level upon starting their employment with the company. To gain SC Clearance you will normally need at least 5 years' UK residency.
