Role Description and Purpose

The role is part of the LOD1 Controls team within the Investments Business Management team. The IBM team is part of the COO Division within the Investments Platform (encompassing all the investment activities – equity, fixed income, multi-asset and SQI). The role holder will be responsible for operating and coordinating the Investments Division’s Operational and Permanent Control Framework. He/she works closely with BNP Paribas Asset Management CIOs, the COO Investments, the head of Investments Business Management, and the OPC (Operational Permanent Control) community within BNP Paribas Asset Management.

Key Responsibilities

RCSA

  • Ensure that key operational units and processes, material risks and risk mitigants are identified inventoried and maintained at the appropriate level
  • Maintain the risk taxonomy, cartography and risk assessment at the appropriate level
  • Ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the RCSA framework within his/her 1st LoD control perimeter at the appropriate level
  • Perform/drive the risk identification and assessment in liaison with independent control Functions when needed, ensuring validation by the relevant management level and consistency with the defined risk tolerance
  • Contribute to the definition and follow-up of remediation plan if needed

Procedures

  • Ensure that BNPPARIBAS Group procedures requirements are implemented locally, complemented with local specificities (regulations, tools organizations, …)
  • Ensure that the procedures designed by the businesses are identified, updated, properly stored and communicated to the relevant stakeholders
  • Identify and propose calibration of the procedures according to the outcome of the risk assessment and other risk events ( control results, external events, Audit missions, …)

Controls and actions plan

  • Define and regularly update Investment control plans according to the outcome of the risk assessment, regulations, other risk events (control results, external events, Audit missions, …)
  • Perform and/or coordinate controls according to this control plan
  • Ensure that control results are reviewed and analysed by the CIOs and when relevant by operational teams / relevant stakeholders and that remediation action plans are defined if and when needed
  • Input in Group tools the control results and major action plans
  • Follow-up the implementation of remediation actions

Findings, recommendations and permanent control actions

  • Upon notification/receipt of reports, organise the follow-up of the findings and recommendations, either issued internally (e.g. IG supervision) or externally (external auditors, supervisors) and ensure that they are closed within due date

Management of breaches

  • Work alongside Risk, Compliance and Portfolio Managers to ensure a smooth resolution of investment breaches

Management of potential incidents

  • Conduct and/or coordinate the assessment, quantification and update of potential incidents in liaison with the concerned independent control functions
  • Provide information on major / emerging risks in order to promote risk awareness within management decision
  • Follow-up and / or Initiate action plans consistent with the entity's risk appetite / tolerance

Key Internal / External Relationships

Internal: BNP Paribas Group, Transversal Functions (Risk, Compliance), Portfolio Managers, Internal Audit (IG), Operational teams.

External: External auditors/ supervisors

Role Requirements

Essential Skills/Competencies (Technical / Behavioural / Leadership)

  • Good knowledge of Asset Management activity and investment knowledge to translate Group and audit requirements into appropriate controls, and to challenge them when needed.
  • A strong understanding of how Portfolio Managers operate in order to define and implement a control plan tailored to Investment activities
  • Extensive knowledge of control environment
  • Comfortable with change management in complex organisation, notably involving information systems
  • Executive communication and exposure to senior management
  • Demonstrates a good knowledge of risk and fundamental risk concepts and their major processes. Always considers risk in his/her daily activities
  • High ethical standards
  • Tact and ability to interact with partners, functions and Management
  • Inclusive, demonstrates strong relationship-building skills
  • Able to influence key stakeholders
  • Articulate with strong communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team will also be expected to prove autonomy, determination and capacity for initiative to achieve objectives set by Management

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Substantial experience in Asset Management across all Asset Classes preferred
  • Degree level education or equivalent
  • Fluent in both French and English (written and spoken)
  • Excel/Word/PowerPoint: Advanced
  • Experience using an Operational Management System (OMS) is preferable
