Director of Operational Risk
Location: London
ETRA Talent is partnering with a global financial services firm to appoint an experienced Director of Operational Risk. This is a senior second-line role with responsibility for leading the operational risk agenda for its UK-regulated business.
The successful candidate will oversee the design, implementation and continued development of the operational risk framework across the firm’s regulated activities. This role requires an experienced and credible risk professional who can operate independently, engage confidently with regulators and senior stakeholders, and escalate emerging risks or control concerns promptly.

Key responsibilities

- Lead the day-to-day operational risk activities of the UK business, including Risk and Control Self-Assessments, control monitoring, key risk indicators and risk appetite reporting.
- Act as a senior operational risk contact for regulators, managing information requests, thematic reviews and supervisory engagement.
- Provide oversight of regulatory requirements relating to operational resilience, ICT risk, DORA and third-party risk management.
- Interpret regulatory developments and translate them into practical improvements to the firm’s controls, policies and risk framework.
- Provide effective second-line challenge to first-line risk and control activities across front-office, operational and corporate functions.
- Oversee the identification, assessment and reporting of operational risk events, including root-cause analysis and remediation.
- Lead the operational risk aspects of incident management, including escalation, regulatory reporting and post-incident reviews.
- Support scenario analysis and operational risk capital assessments as part of the firm’s ICARA process.
