Operational Risk Oversight Manager – Third Party

We are seeking an Operational Risk Oversight Manager – Third Party to join our Second Line of Defence team.

As third-party partnerships and suppliers remain a critical aspect of our operations, this role focuses on how Nationwide manages and governs risks arising from external suppliers. In this position, you will:

  • Identify and challenge third-party risks to help protect Nationwide and its members.
  • Ensure that our supply chain and outsourcing arrangements are secure, resilient, and appropriately controlled.

About the Role

As part of our independent Second Line Operational Risk Oversight team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering the Society’s objectives. The team’s mission is to ensure non-financial risks are effectively managed, enabling Nationwide to serve its members safely and efficiently.

You will collaboratively work with:

  • First-line third-party risk teams
  • Supplier Relationship Managers
  • Procurement teams
  • Business areas relying on critical suppliers

Providing guidance on best practice risk management and ensuring compliance with third-party risk policies and evolving regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with business leaders to challenge how they identify, assess, and mitigate supplier risks, particularly in light of regulatory expectations around outsourcing and operational resilience.
  • Conduct supplier risk reviews and perform continuous monitoring of:
    • Key vendor performance
    • Controls effectiveness
    • The third-party risk management framework
  • Evaluate the framework for gaps, ensuring strong oversight of third-party risks.
  • Help develop and improve supplier risk policies.
  • Present oversight findings to senior management and relevant committees.
  • Support the Director of Operational Risk in maintaining high standards for third-party management to protect members from potential disruption.

  • Nationwide supports hybrid working wherever possible.
    • At least two days per week (or 40% of time for part-time) will be based in either:
      • Our London office
      • Our Swindon office
    • If aligned to Glasgow, there will be weekly collaboration with colleagues based there for regular engagement.
