Operational Risk Oversight Manager – Operational Resilience
Location London or Swindon office (with option for hybrid working and regular attendance in Glasgow hub if applicable). Internal applicants in other locations may be considered.
Role Overview
We are seeking an Operational Risk Oversight Manager – Operational Resilience to join the Second Line of Defence team. With operational resilience being a critical enabler of our strategy and the delivery of positive customer outcomes, this role will focus on how Nationwide manages and governs resilience outcomes.
By identifying and challenging resilience risks and frameworks, the team helps protect Nationwide and its members.
About the Role
As part of our independent Second Line Operational Risk Oversight team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering the Society’s objectives. The team’s mission is to ensure that non-financial risks are effectively managed so that Nationwide can serve its members safely and reliably.
You will work closely with:
- First-Line third-party risk teams
- Supplier Relationship Managers
- Procurement teams
- Business areas relying on critical suppliers
Your role involves providing guidance on good risk management practices and ensuring compliance with operational resilience frameworks, policies, and evolving regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Oversight & Engagement
- Engage with business leaders to challenge supplier risk assessment and mitigation approaches, aligning with evolving regulatory expectations on operational resilience.
- Review resilience methodologies, monitor resilience-related controls and reporting, and evaluate the operational resilience framework to identify gaps and maturity opportunities.
- Oversight of:
- Important Business Services (IBS)
- Important Technology Operations (ITOL) refreshes
- Resilience mapping
- Scenario testing
- Annual self-assessments
Policy & Governance
- Refine and embed resilience policies within enterprise risk management frameworks.
- Summarise oversight findings for senior management and risk committees.
Collaboration & Protection
- Maintain a clear view of the Society’s resilience posture.
- Collaborate with Operational Risk and Compliance specialists to support the Director of Operational Risk in upholding robust resilience standards, protecting members from potential disruption.
Requirements
- Proven experience in operational resilience, risk oversight, or governance within a financial or high-risk regulatory sector.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, including—but not limited to—operational resilience principles (e.g., BCBS 254, PRA guidelines).
- Ability to challenge risk management approaches and drive continuous improvement.
- Hands-on experience with risk assessments, controls testing, and policy frameworks.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., FRM, CORM, or equivalent) preferred.
