Job Introduction
We’re looking for a highly organised and proactive Operational Support & Logistics Manager to play a key role in supporting Torrent Trackside’s national operation. Reporting to the National Servicing Manager, you’ll be at the heart of coordinating planned maintenance, operational logistics and asset management, ensuring our people, equipment and spares are in the right place at the right time.
Working closely with Regional Service Managers, Mobile Fitters, Depots, the Control Centre, customers and suppliers, this is a varied and fast-paced role where you’ll help improve operational efficiency, maximise asset availability and keep our maintenance activities running smoothly across the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage and maintain national Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) plans for rail and non-rail assets, ensuring service requirements are delivered in line with customer and contractual expectations.
- Coordinate Mobile Fitter deployment alongside Regional Service Managers, maximising productivity, geographical efficiency and effective use of resources.
- Act as a central point of coordination between Regional Service Managers, Mobile Fitters, Depots, the Control Centre, customers and suppliers.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers to support maintenance planning, quotations and effective operational delivery.
- Coordinate spares and inventory requirements across the operation, helping to minimise shortages, reduce excess stock and avoid unnecessary emergency purchasing.
- Support depots during peak periods, helping manage asset availability, inter-depot transfers, out-of-test equipment and non-presentations.
- Provide additional support to the Control Centre and breakdown coordination teams during periods of high demand, holidays and absence.
- Monitor operational activity and use data to identify opportunities to improve asset management, fitter productivity and maintenance delivery.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve inventory control, logistics efficiency and the overall utilisation of operational resources.
- Build effective working relationships across the national operation, helping teams work together to deliver an efficient and reliable service for our customers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
