Work Schedule

  • Rotational shift nights/weekends

Environmental Conditions

  • Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance
  • Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards
  • Cleanroom: no hair products, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, perfume, exposed piercings, facial hair etc... allowed
  • Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.)
  • Working at heights

DESCRIPTION

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, the Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability, performance and compliance of manufacturing equipment and facility systems within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment. Working as part of a highly skilled engineering team, you will perform planned preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs and continuous improvement activities across electrical, mechanical and automated production systems.

You will support manufacturing operations by ensuring equipment uptime, responding to breakdowns, identifying root causes of failures, and implementing sustainable corrective actions. The role requires close collaboration with Production, Quality, Validation and Engineering teams to maintain safe, efficient and compliant operations that enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Time-served Multi Skilled Engineering Apprenticeship, HNC/HND in Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, FMCG, or other highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical maintenance knowledge, including fault diagnosis and repair of production equipment.
  • Experience working with automated manufacturing systems, PLC-controlled equipment and industrial control systems.
  • Knowledge of GMP, health and safety requirements, and regulatory standards applicable to pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Experience of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), predictive maintenance and reliability improvement techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals and operating procedures.
  • Experience of root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems for maintenance planning, asset management and documentation control.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement and reliability engineering principles.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications and maintenance reporting systems.
  • Experience of utilities and site services equipment, including HVAC, compressed air, purified water systems, boilers or cleanroom infrastructure would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, sensors, drives and process control systems is desirable.
  • Flexible approach to support shift operations, planned shutdowns and emergency breakdown response as required.
  • Self-motivated professional capable of working independently while contributing positively within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on manufacturing and facility equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed in compliance with GMP, EHS and site quality procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders and documentation.
  • Support equipment installations, commissioning, validation and change control activities.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPA).
  • Work collaboratively with Production and Quality teams to minimise downtime and maximise operational performance.
