Operational Support Officer at HMP Ashfield, Bristol
Job Title: Operational Support Officer
Location: HMP Ashfield, Bristol
Salary: £26,436.80 per annum, plus Serco benefits
Working Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week) and part-time (20 hours per week)
About the Role
As the Operational Support Officer, your key accountabilities include:
- Reporting directly to the nominated Custodial Operations Manager and carrying out assigned duties.
- Working in the control room, monitoring CCTV and radio systems, alerting staff when alarms are raised, and completing necessary paperwork.
- Performing routine net test calls and cell call checks.
- Operating in the Gatehouse area, granting access to visitors and staff (including vehicle and staff searches as required).
- Assisting with vehicle escorting around the establishment.
- Allocating and managing BWVC (Bomb Detection Vehicle) equipment.
- Supporting activities in the Command suite when required.
- Participating in exercises and contingency planning.
- Undertaking any other OSO-related duties.
Requirements
Qualifications
Minimum:
- GCSE Maths & English grade C or above, or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of IT skills.

Desirable:
- Knowledge of security procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and strong communication with external agencies.
Experience
Experience in a secure environment or with a similar client group is beneficial (not mandatory).
Skills and Abilities
- Strong organisational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work flexibly as a team player and demonstrate interpersonal skills with visitors, staff, and prisoners.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to monitor and audit processes and procedures.
- Report writing, numeracy (interpretation and presentation of statistics).
- Proven ability to liaise effectively with other agencies.
- Holding a full driving licence.
- The utmost trust and decorum in handling sensitive information.
This role involves shift work, including nights.
