Job Description
An exciting substantive opportunity to become an Operational Support Officer has arisen within Adult Social Care.
The Operational Support teams engage with and provide support to a variety of services across Adult Social Care, including Adult Safeguarding, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Older People/Physical Disabilities.
The teams are instrumental to the processing of complex referrals across numerous access points in ASC, ensuring essential data is communicated to relevant services and that we help to ensure the safeguarding of vulnerable adults; ensuring that data quality is in place for statutory returns and accurate reporting; providing finance-related support to ensure payments and contributions are promptly loaded; taking minutes for statutory meetings involving complex cases; co-ordinating boards and panels. Information received can be highly sensitive and at times can include distressing content. For this reason, it would be beneficial for you to have prior experience of working within an adult social care setting, relating to vulnerable service users.
As a Support Officer within the team, you will be expected to input data relevant to various services across ASC using multiple systems to a high standard. It is essential that the applicant has an excellent command of written English, with the ability to work on your own initiative and communicate openly with the rest of the team about day-to-day tasks and workflow. You will be required to ensure data is loaded promptly and accurately, so you will need a high level of numeracy and confidence working with figures to calculate social care funding costs. You will be overseeing electronic referral routes into ASC and flagging up any urgent issues, working in liaison with colleagues to ensure statutory and local timescales are met, while ensuring we remain flexible to service demands and pressures.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
