What To Expect

As an Operational Support Specialist, you will join us on our journey and undertake a highly valuable role responsible for supporting our network of over 11,500 branches to operate safe, compliant and successful franchise businesses. Working in a field-based capacity, you will undertake a variety of branch visits, including stock and cash verification, operational support, branch accounting reviews and cash management activities.

You will work closely with Postmasters and a range of stakeholders across the business, providing coaching, guidance and practical support to help improve operational performance and ensure branches are equipped to deliver excellent service to customers. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference to our Postmaster community. Whether supporting branches through operational challenges, conducting risk-based stock checks, or helping colleagues following significant events such as robberies, burglaries or branch closures, you will play an important role in helping our network thrive.

As a national field-based role, regular travel and overnight stays will be required, with work scheduled according to your geographical location.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have experience of branch operations, cash and stock management processes and be confident building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. You will combine operational expertise with a coaching and support-focused approach, ensuring Postmasters receive clear guidance and practical solutions.

As an Operational Support Specialist, you will be highly skilled in Horizon day-to-day operations and back-office accounting, with good proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

In Addition To This, The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Have excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and confidently.
  • Demonstrate high levels of integrity, professionalism and attention to detail in all aspects of their work.
  • Be able to adapt their approach to different situations, showing empathy, emotional intelligence and sound judgement when supporting Postmasters.
  • Have strong consultative and coaching skills, enabling them to provide support, guidance and signposting to appropriate resources.
  • Be flexible and willing to travel nationally, including overnight stays where required.
  • Be committed to continuous learning, personal development and maintaining high team standards.
  • Be a collaborative team player who can work effectively across teams and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
