About the role

At National Grid Interconnectors, we're playing a vital role in delivering the UK's net zero future. Our high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnectors connect Great Britain's energy system with those of our nearest neighbours, enabling the secure transfer of electricity across borders and supporting a cleaner, more resilient energy network.

As our portfolio continues to grow, we're looking for an Operational Technology (OT) Technician to join our Operations team. In this role, you'll help ensure the reliable and secure operation of critical OT systems, networking infrastructure, and cyber assets that support our interconnector sites and control room environments.

Working as part of a highly skilled team, you'll play a key part in maintaining system performance, strengthening cyber security, and supporting the safe operation of nationally important energy infrastructure.

The role is based onsite at Vikinglink based in Bickerfen, so please ensure you have a full UK driving licence and are within travelling distance of site.

What you'll do

As an OT Technician, you'll support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and security of Operational Technology assets across our interconnector sites. Responsibilities include;

  • Installing, maintaining, refurbishing and repairing OT systems, networking infrastructure and cyber security assets.
  • Performing routine operational activities, including software patching, antivirus updates, backups and access permission reviews.
  • Monitoring asset condition and system performance to identify and resolve issues proactively.
  • Supporting both planned and reactive maintenance activities across site systems.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable legislation, business procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Participating in a site call-out rota and supporting live operational incidents when required.
  • Managing and supporting third-party contractors carrying out planned and unplanned works.
  • Supporting cyber security, engineering and assurance initiatives across interconnector sites and control rooms.
  • Assisting with asset management, change management and spare equipment readiness.
  • Supporting backup, restoration and recovery activities for critical operational systems.
  • Installing and testing hardware and network changes.
  • Acting as a superuser for privileged devices, supporting software builds, device management and operational use cases.
  • Assisting with the management of supporting infrastructure, including power supplies, cooling systems and physical security controls.
  • Supporting audits, inspections and compliance reporting activities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
