  • 37.5 hours each week, working 5 over 7 days of 7.5 hour shifts including an element of weekend working

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Operational Training Team Leader to join our manufacturing team. This is a hands-on leadership role with primary responsibility for training, capability development, compliance, and maintaining audit-ready training systems across the site.

The successful candidate will lead all operational training activities, ensure training records and competency matrices are accurate and up to date, deliver inductions and skills training, and support the ongoing development of production teams. Alongside these responsibilities, the role will also involve day-to-day Team Leader duties, ensuring operational performance, quality, safety, and people management standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Training & Development (Primary Responsibility)

  • Own and maintain the site training matrix, ensuring all records are accurate, current, and audit-ready at all times
  • Coordinate, deliver, and record all operational training activities across production departments
  • Deliver engaging inductions for new starters, agency workers, and internal transfers
  • Assess and sign off employee competence against SOPs, work instructions, and required standards
  • Identify training needs through skills gap analysis and work with managers to develop training plans
  • Cascade process changes, quality updates, customer requirements, and operational communications through structured training sessions
  • Ensure mandatory training is completed within required timeframes
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of training materials, SOPs, visual standards, and work instructions
  • Conduct training effectiveness reviews and refresher training where required
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate training records and evidence of competency
  • Develop and coach departmental trainers and subject matter experts
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, capability building, and operational excellence across the site
  • Support succession planning through development of team members and future leaders

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage training reports, compliance dashboards, and weekly KPI updates
  • Support implementation of new processes, equipment, and operational changes through structured training plans
  • Develop SOPs, training guides, and work instructions in partnership with management
  • Conduct GMP walks and implement corrective actions where required
  • Lead toolbox talks, training briefings, and operational communications
  • Provide cover across operational departments when required
  • Plan training activities proactively to minimise operational disruption
  • Support continuous improvement projects relating to people capability, compliance, and operational performance

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience within an FMCG, food manufacturing, or production environment
  • Experience in a Team Leader, Supervisor, Trainer, or Operational Training role
  • Proven experience delivering workplace training and competency assessments
  • Experience maintaining training records and training matrices
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, food safety, and Health & Safety requirements
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and presentation skills
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to influence and engage people at all levels of the business
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and training record management systems

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to undertake manual handling tasks
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment
  • Able to spend time both on the factory floor and in training environments
  • Able to bend, lift, and work in confined spaces where necessary
