Location: Hemel Hempstead
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience and qualifications.
Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time (45 hours per week)
This is a hands-on management role rather than a purely office-based administrative position.
We are looking for an organised, commercially minded, and highly proactive Operations and Business Development Manager to join our growing plant hire and haulage business.
This is a key position within the company and will involve responsibility for the day-to-day coordination of our plant hire, haulage, and HGV operations, while also supporting the continued growth of the business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for keeping the fleet and operations organised, ensuring compliance and maintenance requirements are scheduled, managing customer bookings and contracts, coordinating invoices, and working closely with our maintenance engineer to keep machinery and vehicles operational.
The role will also have a strong business development element. We are looking for someone who is confident speaking to existing and potential customers, building relationships, identifying new opportunities, and using social media and digital marketing to promote the business.
This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys having responsibility, is commercially aware, and wants to play an important role in building a growing company.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
