This role represents a truly unique opportunity within our organisation: while EDClass actively educates, mentors, and prepares learners through their Functional Skills and GCSE learning journeys, EDExams steps in to finalise and close that critical cycle—delivering the formal assessments, diagnostic milestones, mocks, and final high-stakes examinations.
As our Operations and Examinations Manager, you will hold complete accountability for the entire examination and assessment lifecycle, ensuring absolute compliance with JCQ regulations, Functional Skills standards, and awarding organisation criteria. You will be at the forefront of administering, proctoring, and offering dedicated support on our brand-new platform. As we scale, this new platform is evolving into a deeply client-facing solution, placing sophisticated administrative autonomy, transparent real-time monitoring, and bespoke controls directly into the hands of our clients.
The entire assessment ecosystem is delivered totally online and remotely, with the core operational engine, leadership, and quality assurance centrally anchored from our headquarters in Dinnington, Sheffield.
Understanding Client and Assessment Requirements
Role
Central to this role is the ability to deeply understand, interpret, and operationalise the diverse assessment and regulatory needs of our clients:
- Bespoke Client Scoping: Engage directly with institutional leaders, awarding organisations, test centres, and employers to evaluate their operational workflows, timetable constraints, cohort volumes, and technical infrastructure.
- Assessment Specification Analysis: Thoroughly deconstruct syllabus and specification guidelines across diverse disciplines—ranging from linear written papers and practical task criteria to multiple-choice knowledge tests—ensuring testing setups mirror the intended assessment objectives.
- Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments: Interpret candidate medical and educational evidence to configure bespoke access arrangements (e.g., extra time, digital reader/scribe provisions, coloured overlays, supervised rest breaks) strictly adhering to regulatory guidelines.
- Tailored Platform Deployment: Translate institutional needs into tailored assessment sessions on our brand-new platform, configuring white-label branding, custom question types, bespoke proctor-to-candidate ratios, and cohort-specific security thresholds.
- SLA Alignment and Client Consultation: Act as the consultative expert, ensuring client Service Level Agreements (SLAs) match qualification compliance realities while providing practical, stress-free solutions for both administrators and candidates.

- Administration on Our Brand-New Platform: Full operational handling of digital test setup, candidate registration, secure distribution, and rapid results processing via an advanced, intuitive management system.
- Live Online Proctoring and Invigilation: Cutting-edge remote proctoring tools, concurrent virtual room monitoring, and multi-tier oversight ensuring uncompromising equity, security, and integrity.
- Dedicated Platform Support and Customer Care: Expert assistance for candidates and institutional administrators, resolving technical questions in real time and providing step-by-step guidance to ensure a seamless, stress-free user journey.
- Evolving Client-Facing Architecture: Advanced administrative visibility, intuitive custom workflows, and white-label branding options giving clients direct, real-time control over their testing operations.
- Rigorous Security Infrastructure: Secure browser locking, multi-feed audio/webcam/screen monitoring, multi-factor identity verification, and complete regulatory alignment.
- Actionable Analytics and Reporting: Comprehensive cohort reporting, audit logs, and performance data providing clear, actionable insights for institutional decision-makers.
Key Responsibilities
Total Accountability, Platform Administration and Service Delivery

- Hold single-point operational accountability for the end-to-end examination, diagnostic, and mock assessment lifecycle across all client accounts on our brand-new platform.
- Oversee the complete operational handover from EDClass’s instructional cohorts to EDExams’ live assessment environments, taking full ownership of finalising the qualification cycle for Functional Skills and GCSE learners.
- Consult with clients to capture assessment specifications and individual access arrangement requirements, translating them into configured sessions on the platform.
- Serve as the operational bridge as the new platform shifts to a more client-facing model, onboarding client administrators and driving adoption of self-service management tools.
- Manage client contracts and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), acting as the trusted operational liaison for client leads, assessment heads, and centre administrators.
- Establish and drive the annual online examination cycle, setting operational service standards, delivery milestones, and measurable KPIs.
- Provide regular compliance, audit, and performance assurance reports to the Compliance Manager and Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Live Online Proctoring and Team Leadership
- Lead, coordinate, and participate in active online proctoring across high-stakes exam sessions, ensuring constant vigilance and integrity.
- Line-manage, mentor, and schedule our core and sessional team of remote online invigilators and live proctors across early morning, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Ensure invigilators maintain a calm, discreet, yet authoritative virtual presence across concurrent online testing rooms to deter malpractice without intimidating candidates.
- Perform continuous quality checks, audit recorded exam sessions, and evaluate real-time intervention practices.
Platform Support and Candidate Care
- Deliver and oversee first-class, on-demand support on the new platform for candidates and client administrators during live testing and onboarding.
- Ensure proctoring and support personnel display genuine sensitivity to test-related anxiety, providing empathetic, professional guidance to candidates.
- Rapidly troubleshoot and de-escalate technical, candidate, or logistical issues in real time to ensure uninterrupted exam delivery.
Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Maintain full accountability for adherence to JCQ regulations, Functional Skills assessment standards, awarding organisation criteria, and Ofqual requirements across all digital test sittings.
- Ensure the integrity of assessment delivery, including secure asset distribution, strict verification of access arrangements, and compliant retention of digital records.
- Lead investigations into suspected malpractice or technical anomalies, compiling comprehensive digital audit logs, session recordings, and factual evidence reports for awarding bodies.
- Maintain complete operational readiness for external quality verifications, centre audits, and unannounced inspections.
- Ensure that all Standard Operating Procedures are created and regularly reviewed for the business.
