Operations and Maintenance Engineer

Permanent Contract with Full-Time Hours
Aberdeen, UK

Our solutions support our clients to optimise their efficiency by ensuring the performance, reliability and safety of critical equipment and people. With our headquarters in Aberdeen, we employ over 1,600 people across numerous operational locations across the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. The main purpose of the role is to maximise the Group return by delivering a high level of customer service and proactive business development.

Main Responsibilities

  • To primarily show leadership behaviours, working with the team to achieve best in class equipment reliability and availability, and operational support to the client.
  • Business skills; responsible for interacting with clients, overseeing a team and managing budgets.
  • To provide administration and technical support to assigned platforms to meet crane / mechanical handling operation and maintenance objectives.
  • To act as focal point for entire group service offering.
  • Line manager for core offshore personnel.
  • Liaison with clients, support functions and subcontractors.
  • Planning and delivery of assigned maintenance activities and managing any changes effectively.
  • Carry out site / offshore visits when requested and prepare detailed activity reports.
  • Financial control of the maintenance activities.
  • Comply with Company's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Management System all procedures, work instructions and risk assessments and support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality.

Technical:

  • Creating maintenance plans and scheduling manpower and equipment associated with client activities.
  • Compile and manage records and condition monitoring information and co-ordinate action as required.
  • Ensure all spares and equipment are specified, purchased, stored and issued in accordance with requirements.
  • Direct team to complete and record maintenance and repair activities in accordance with work schedules, client standards and approved maintenance strategies.
  • Provide a focal point for technical queries and review any proposed modifications or changes that may arise.
  • Maintain awareness of technology developments to support Sparrows service provision to clients.
  • Managing the budget for the maintenance of equipment.
  • Ability to understand a variety of engineering procedures and functions.
  • Maintain site specific risk assessments.

Business Promotion:

  • Contribute to the establishment sales effort, through direct client contact and meetings, with particular focus on target customers as defined within the establishment business plan.
  • Assist with compilation and cost control of the business unit budgets and, in conjunction with the Business Manager, identify areas for business development.
  • Contribute to quarterly performance reviews with line management regarding the department's services to enable accurate review of business unit performance.
  • Undertaking visits to site or client assets to promote and maintain effective communications with Client representatives and Sparrows Offshore personnel.

Operations & Engineering:

  • Performing financial predictions by preparing the annual budgets, scheduling expenditures, analysing variance, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Reviewing and approving operational invoices.
  • Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Contribute to the establishment sales effort, through direct client contact and meetings, with particular focus on target customers as defined within the establishment business plan.
  • Duties encompass the assistance with compilation and cost control of the business unit budgets and, in conjunction with the Business Manager, identify areas for business development.
  • Contribute to quarterly performance reviews with line management regarding the department's services to enable accurate review of business unit performance.
  • Undertaking visits to site or client's assets to promote and maintain effective communications with Client representatives and Sparrows Offshore personnel.
  • Staying on-call and responding to emergency operational needs.
  • Co-ordinating work performed by engineering and site-based teams.

Development:

The role requires a proactive approach to mentoring assigned Graduate and Project Engineers, with respect to the following aspects:

  • Job and enquiry set-up and control.
  • Project administration.
  • Project reviews; including financial, technical and reporting requirements.
  • The incumbent should ensure that subordinates are helped to perform their jobs effectively and have the learning opportunities through which their abilities and potential can be developed.

Management:

Contributing to the development of new systems, procedures and initiatives that will assist the Sparrows Group of Companies by:

  • Taking part in Senior Management team meetings.
  • Contributing to special meetings and working parties.
  • Covering for Business Manager during out of office activities.
  • Ensuring that all financial transactions are completed to the highest ethical and professional standards and comply with the Sparrows Finance Policies by:
    • Seeking advice from Finance.
    • Reviewing and approving client invoices.
    • Continual review and reduction of department WIP and Debt.
    • Encouraging direct reports to seek advice from and respond timely to staff in the Finance department.
    • Responding quickly and thoroughly when issues regarding financial probity are suspected or identified.

HSEQ Responsibilities

  • It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
  • The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • HND, BSc or BEng (Hons) within a relevant discipline, or time served with 5+ years hands on experience within a relevant role.
  • Excellent communication skills to enable effective liaison with clients, vendors and other members of staff.
  • Effective in dealing with commercial and management aspects of the role.
  • Careful and meticulous professional, and a motivated self-starter.
  • Good technical writing skills and proficient use of MS Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel etc).

Desirable:

  • Offshore industry experience.
