Operations Director – Tier 1 Main Contractor (MOD or Healthcare)
Location: Nationwide (UK), with regular travel and overnight stays
Salary: Up to £120,000 per annum plus package
Sector: MOD or Healthcare – Refurbishment, Fit-Out and New Build
Salter Grange is partnering with a leading Tier 1 main contractor to appoint an experienced Operations Director to lead delivery across a nationwide portfolio of MOD or healthcare projects.
Our client delivers complex, high-profile schemes for defence or healthcare clients, ranging from live-environment refurbishments and specialist fit-outs through to major new-build programmes.
As Operations Director, you will take overall responsibility for the safe, profitable and on time delivery of a diverse project portfolio, leading project teams across multiple sites and ensuring the business continues to exceed the expectations of demanding public-sector clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across a nationwide portfolio of MOD or healthcare projects, from pre-construction through to handover
- Take full accountability for health and safety, quality, programme and commercial performance across all live schemes
- Lead, develop and motivate project directors, project managers and site teams, building a high-performing and collaborative culture
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, frameworks, consultants and the supply chain, acting as a senior point of contact
- Oversee delivery in sensitive and live environments, including operational hospitals or secure defence establishments
- Work closely with the commercial, pre-construction and business development teams to secure repeat business and support future pipeline growth
- Drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency and best practice across the delivery function
- Report on operational performance to the board and contribute to the wider strategic direction of the business

- Proven experience in a senior operational role (Operations Director, Construction Director, Project Director or equivalent) with a main contractor
- Demonstrable track record delivering MOD or healthcare projects at a senior level
- Experience across refurbishment, fit-out and new-build delivery, ideally within live or secure environments
- Strong commercial awareness and experience managing multi-million-pound project portfolios
- A confident leader able to manage multiple teams and projects across wide geographical areas
- Excellent client-facing skills, with experience working within public-sector frameworks desirable
- Comfortable with regular travel across the UK and staying away from home as and when projects require
