Our client has an outstanding history and reputation and is a name synonymous with the best in the industry. They are the largest independent manufacturer of their kind and have recently become part of one of the leading independent pharmaceutical packaging groups in the UK and Ireland.

As such, we are looking to appoint an outstanding Operations Director to this critical new position, who can shape and deliver transformational change within this progressive organisation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in integrating the business into the wider Group, driving operational excellence, sharing best practice and helping create one high-performing organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • This is a substantial change management and leadership role where you must be able to lead significant operational activities within a highly commercial environment.
  • Reporting to the Managing Director, you will lead a highly critical facility in the North West at a time of major change and where there are significant opportunities to maximise.
  • This role will be focused on best practice operational excellence, embedding continuous improvement with an emphasis on output, customer excellence, quality, compliance, health & safety, efficiency and lean improvements amongst others.
  • You will have full accountability for all day-to-day and strategic operational activities including manufacturing, warehousing, engineering and logistics, with a significant focus on improved methods and processes in all areas.
  • You will define operational policy, lead all operational planning activities and develop a truly measurable continuous improvement culture. You will be expected to lead the organisation towards best in class, in order to meet the company finance performance criteria.
  • You will drive measurable improvements across key operational metrics including OEE, OTIF, Right First Time, waste reduction, labour productivity, asset utilisation and KPI performance.
  • To formulate and implement plans to develop an effective operational structure and direct, coach, train and motivate teams towards the establishment of a continuous improvement environment.
  • To drive people engagement, creating a culture of communication, trust, accountability and involvement at all levels, to ensure a high-performing best practice environment.
  • To implement a sophisticated change and development programme in terms of systems, processes, people and innovation.
  • You will ensure world-class quality and compliance standards are maintained, meeting regulatory requirements and exceeding customer expectations.

Person:

This unique position demands an exceptional individual who enjoys a growth environment, substantial autonomy and a highly visible operational role together with a focus on change management.
Of graduate calibre or degree qualified in an appropriate discipline, you will have an outstanding track record in manufacturing/operational management gained within a best-in-class manufacturing environment and possibly within a highly regulated industry.
With medium to high volume experience, you will understand the demands of running a complex manufacturing facility in a highly customer-centric environment, where you will have the ability to identify opportunities and know how to turn them into a commercial reality.
As such, relevant sector experience could include; packaging, labels, food and drink, pharmaceutical manufacturing, life science manufacturing, beauty and personal care/FMCG etc.
An entrepreneurial self-starter, creative and empowering, you will be collaborative, resilient, commercially minded, decisive and intellectually curious, with the ability to champion change, introduce far-reaching initiatives and relish the opportunity to advance your career within a market-leading organisation.
A visible and engaging leader, you will be collaborative, highly resilient, commercially minded and a decisive character who is calm under pressure.
You have the ability to build trust, develop people and create a high-performance culture focused on quality, teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement.
