WGM Engineering, part of RSK Group, is looking for an Operations Director – Electrical & Mechanical to join our E&M Business stream on a Permanent, full-time basis. The role will be based in Glasgow and offers hybrid working. Please note that we will be relocating to Stepps within 6 months of you joining.
Reporting to the E&M Director, you will lead operational delivery across our E&M workstreams, bringing together the people, resources, processes, and controls needed to deliver safely, consistently, and commercially. This is an opportunity to shape how a growing engineering business operates.
WGM is growing across the UK’s water and industrial sectors, combining the practical, hands-on approach of a specialist engineering business with the scale and support of RSK Group. This is an opportunity for a leader who wants to stay close to delivery, influence decisions, and build the operational capability needed for long-term growth.
What You’ll Be Doing

- Put health, safety, environmental, and quality performance at the center of operational decisions, demonstrating visible leadership and reinforcing WGM’s values.
- Work with the E&M Director and management team to develop operational priorities, delivery structures, and capacity for growth across multiple frameworks and new markets.
- Develop and manage operational objectives and budgets, working with finance and commercial colleagues to maintain accurate reporting, control costs, and improve productivity and financial performance.
- Strengthen collaboration across WGM’s business streams and support functions, improving processes, systems, and reporting. Support programme sponsors with clear performance information, delivery forecasts, and client updates.
- Develop the E&M management team and wider workforce through clear expectations, performance reviews, coaching, and succession planning, working with HR on recruitment, retention, and capability development.
Essential
What you’ll bring
- Senior operational leadership experience within electrical and mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering delivery environment, with responsibility for multiple teams and workstreams.
- A track record of planning and managing concurrent contracts or programmes, balancing resources, capacity, client commitments, and delivery risks.
- Strong financial and commercial understanding, including experience managing budgets, reviewing performance, and improving cost control and productivity, with the capability to develop into broader P&L accountability.
- Visible commitment to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, with the confidence to challenge decisions and hold teams accountable.
- Experience leading and developing managers and teams, setting clear objectives, addressing performance issues, and building capability.
- Experience improving operational structures, processes, and reporting, alongside the ability to build effective relationships with clients, commercial teams, and support functions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
