About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Operations Director / Operations Manager to take primary responsibility for establishing, managing and growing our delivery operation as we prepare to operate as an Amazon Delivery Service Partner (DSP).

This is a senior leadership position. The successful candidate will be expected to become a Director of the company and take ownership of the day-to-day management of the delivery business.

The Operations Director will be the principal person responsible for the operational side of the company and will manage the operation from A to Z, including drivers, vehicles, recruitment, rotas, dispatch, performance, compliance, safety, costs and operational administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the company’s day-to-day delivery operations.
  • Manage an initial operation of approximately 20+ delivery drivers and vehicles, with responsibility for future expansion.
  • Act as the senior operational representative of the company.
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, train and manage delivery drivers and operational staff.
  • Manage driver rotas, attendance, holidays, sickness and replacement cover.
  • Coordinate daily dispatch and delivery operations.
  • Monitor operational KPIs and driver performance.
  • Maintain required service and delivery-performance standards.
  • Manage driver disciplinary, performance and conduct matters.
  • Manage the vehicle fleet, including availability, servicing, maintenance and breakdowns.
  • Oversee relevant operational insurance, health & safety and compliance requirements.
  • Deal with accidents, incidents, complaints and operational escalations.
  • Maintain appropriate company and operational records.
  • Manage operational expenditure and work within agreed budgets.
  • Assist with payroll information, driver hours and workforce records.
  • Manage relationships with relevant suppliers and operational service providers.
  • Develop procedures and systems required to operate an efficient delivery business.
  • Provide regular operational and financial-performance reports to the shareholders.
  • Take responsibility for urgent operational decisions and business continuity.
  • Build the management structure required as the business expands.
  • Work directly with Amazon/DSP representatives where required as part of the company’s operations.

Director Responsibilities

Subject to formal appointment and the company’s Articles of Association, the successful candidate will also be appointed as a Director of the company.

As a director, the individual will be expected to participate in the management and governance of the company and comply with the statutory duties applicable to UK company directors.

The Operations Director will have substantial authority to manage the company’s day-to-day operations within budgets, policies and authority approved by the company.

Candidate Profile

We are particularly interested in candidates with senior operational experience within:

  • Amazon DSP
  • Amazon Logistics
  • DPD
  • DHL
  • Evri
  • Royal Mail
  • Last-mile delivery
  • Courier operations
  • Transport and fleet management

Previous Amazon DSP or Amazon Logistics management experience is highly desirable.

The successful candidate should be comfortable taking responsibility for a substantial delivery operation without requiring the shareholder to manage the business on a daily basis.
