Company Description
The Hydrographic Society UK & Ireland (THS:UKI) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental professional society dedicated to the science of surveying at sea and the wider hydrographic profession. It brings together companies, individual professionals, and students, including hydrographers, technologists, policy makers, and educators. THS:UKI promotes the status of hydrography, raises awareness of its importance, and supports best practice across the sector. The Society provides a forum for networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration for all those involved in hydrography and associated disciplines in the UK and Ireland.
Role Description
The Operations & Engagement Manager is a full-time remote role responsible for the smooth running of day-to-day Society operations and member engagement activities. This role oversees key programs and initiatives, coordinates events and webinars, and supports committees and working groups with planning and execution. The manager maintains effective communication with members and stakeholders, including managing newsletters, website updates, and social media presence. They monitor and improve operational processes, maintain records and databases, and produce reports to support decision-making by the Society’s leadership. The role also involves building partnerships, responding to member inquiries, and contributing to strategies that grow membership, participation, and visibility of the Society.

Qualifications
- Strong program and project management skills, including experience coordinating multiple initiatives and timelines.
- Excellent communication and consulting skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and represent the Society professionally.
- Demonstrated analytical skills to interpret data, monitor performance, and support evidence-based recommendations.
- Experience in operations management, membership or community engagement, or nonprofit/professional society administration is beneficial.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage priorities, and collaborate effectively with volunteer committees and leadership.
- Proficiency with standard office and collaboration tools (e.g., email marketing platforms, CRM/membership databases, virtual meeting tools).
- Understanding of or interest in hydrography, marine science, or related technical fields is an advantage.
- Relevant education or training in management, communications, or a related discipline is desirable.
