As an Operational Improvement Engineer
You will be responsible for identifying, developing and implementing initiatives that improve manufacturing performance, product quality, workplace safety, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency. Working closely with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams, you will lead process improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing, Root Cause Analysis, problem-solving techniques, and data-driven decision-making.
You will analyse operational performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement sustainable solutions that reduce waste, improve productivity, and support business objectives. All activities must be delivered in compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead manufacturing and process improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance.
- Analyse production processes, equipment performance, and operational data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Root Cause Analysis, Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving methodologies to address operational challenges.
- Reduce process variation, defects, rework, and waste through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Improve production throughput, equipment reliability, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and process capability.
- Facilitate investigations into safety, quality, and production issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with teams including Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality to deliver operational improvements.
- Develop business cases, project plans, and performance metrics to support improvement activities.
- Monitor project progress and track realised benefits including productivity gains, cost savings, and quality improvements.
- Coach and support employees in continuous improvement tools, problem-solving techniques, and best practices.
- Promote a culture of operational excellence, employee engagement, and continuous learning.

Success Measures
Success in this role will be demonstrated through:
- Improved safety performance and reduction of operational risks.
- Reduction in quality defects, non-conformances, rework, and waste.
- Increased production throughput and equipment availability.
- Improvements in OEE, process capability, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Deliver measurable cost savings and productivity improvements.
- Successful completion of improvement projects and implementation of sustainable solutions.
- Increased employee participation in continuous improvement projects.
- Complete corrective and preventive actions.
Qualifications
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience delivering process improvement or continuous improvement projects within a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Kaizen, and problem-solving methodologies.
- Ability to analyse and interpret operational, manufacturing, and performance data to support decision-making.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable business improvements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and continuous improvement reporting tools is desirable.
