Overview of Directorate Purpose

The Small Business Unit exists to make it easier for London’s entrepreneurs and small business owners to access the support they need to succeed. Through Grow London Local (GLL) and wider in-person support programmes, the team provides a trusted ‘single front door’ to business support, helping SMEs navigate available advice, funding, resources and opportunities so they can grow with confidence.

Purpose of Role

The Strategy Operations team provides the operational backbone of the Directorate, ensuring our services are well planned, well governed and continuously improving. The team supports both the day-to-day running and long-term development of Grow London Local and related programmes, with responsibility for budget management, business planning, governance, performance reporting and compliance.

As part of the Strategy & Small Business Directorate, which includes Public Affairs, Policy & Insights and Small Business, the Operations team works closely with colleagues across CRM, Marketing, Finance, Compliance and HR. This enables the Directorate to operate in a joined-up way, make informed decisions and deliver high-quality support to London’s SME community.

The Operations Executive, Strategy will play an important role in strengthening the systems, processes and reporting that underpin our work. The role will support the delivery of effective governance arrangements, help streamline operational processes, and gather and analyse data from our CRM system to inform service delivery.

Through the creation of accurate reports and actionable insights, the postholder will help us meet our reporting obligations, understand the impact of our work, improve the support we provide to SMEs, and ensure our operations are as effective and efficient as possible.

Key Tasks

  • Contribute to delivering high-quality governance and data management plans
  • Input and update of quality business support and services data into our CRM database to support the delivery of the GLL digital and in-person business support service as well as other programmes and workstreams within the Strategy & Small Business Directorate.
  • Create reports to meet compliance obligation on a regular basis from data recorded on CRM database
  • Retrieving data as requested to support the timely provision of insights and datasets to inform service improvements
  • Contribute to optimising our operations by providing insights from data to guide improvements
  • Maintain digital platforms used to support the operational execution of business engagement activities such as DocuSign, Eventbrite, Zoom, Salesforce, Smart Sheets, SharePoint, and Slack
  • Deliver ad hoc operational, data, and administrative support for the wider team
  • Support with a wide range of projects with administrative support, arranging meetings, room bookings, and other activities as required

You’ll have/bring

Skills & Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of database systems (e.g., Salesforce) including data entry and cleansing
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately
  • In-depth knowledge of Excel and other processing tools
  • Knowledge of data collection software (e.g., Google Forms, Smart Survey) desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to effectively develop and implement work plans
  • Organise all tasks to be delivered to the required standards.
  • Ability to achieve deadlines and targets
  • Excellent attention to detail with high professional standards
