Role Summary
The Operations Finance Director provides strategic financial insight, analysis, and recommendations on operational and commercial performance across the Group, ensuring financial considerations are embedded in business decisions. The Operations Finance Director acts as a key finance partner to the Commercial and Operations teams, supporting bids, tenders, projects, and commercial opportunities through robust financial analysis, modelling, and recommendations. Working closely with the Operations Performance and Excellence Team, the role provides financial intelligence and insight to enhance visibility of business performance, emerging risks, and opportunities, enabling informed decision-making and supporting the achievement of the Group’s operational and commercial objectives.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial support to the SVP Operations Finance and Tax, acting as a key source of financial data, analysis, and business intelligence to support decision-making on operational and commercial performance, key business drivers, risks, and opportunities.
- Partner with Operations, Commercial, and the Trust and Verify team to develop, interpret, and maintain meaningful operational, financial, and commercial KPIs and metrics, providing clear visibility of business performance, trends, key drivers, and emerging risks and opportunities.
- Partner closely with Commercial leadership throughout the commercial lifecycle, providing financial analysis, insight, and challenge across opportunity assessment, tender preparation, Bid Approval Sheets, customer negotiations, and contract award decisions.
- Lead financial review and challenge of Bid Approval Sheets and significant commercial proposals, ensuring key assumptions, profitability, cash generation, sensitivities, risks, and value drivers are appropriately evaluated to support informed decision-making.
- Provide financial evaluation and decision support for significant projects, contracts, tenders, new country start-ups, rig moves, reactivations, and other major operational initiatives, assessing project economics, cost assumptions, expected returns, cash requirements, and key financial risks.
- Act as the Operations Finance lead for major operational initiatives, working closely with Regional Finance, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure appropriate financial governance, cost control, AFE compliance, and delivery against agreed financial objectives.
- Monitor the financial and operational performance of awarded contracts, projects, and major initiatives against the approved business case, identifying material variances, underlying drivers, and potential impacts on profitability, EBITDA, cash generation, and utilisation.
- Lead post-contract and post-project reviews of significant commercial opportunities and operational initiatives, identifying drivers of success or underperformance, capturing lessons learned, and recommending actions to improve future commercial and operational decision-making.
- Develop forward-looking analysis, scenario modelling, and sensitivity analysis to support strategic operational and commercial decisions, including fleet deployment, rig reactivations, stacking strategies, new market opportunities, project investment, and other significant business decisions.
- Prepare financial analysis, insights, and management materials for the SVP Operations Finance and Tax and senior leadership, providing a clear and comprehensive view of operational and commercial performance and supporting executive decision-making.
- Provide independent financial challenge on commercial proposals, project plans, and operational strategies, ensuring key assumptions, value drivers, financial risks, and potential returns are appropriately assessed, and represent Operations Finance on strategic and cross-functional initiatives where forward-looking financial and commercial analysis is required.

Qualifications and Experience

- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline preferred.
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent) is desirable.
- Previous experience in a similar role, business partnering, commercial finance, operational finance, or project finance, preferably within the energy, offshore, or project-based industry.
- Experience supporting commercial tenders, Bid Approval Sheets, contract evaluation, project economics, or investment decisions.
- Experience analysing operational and financial performance and translating financial information into clear business insight and recommendations.
- Strong financial modelling and analytical capability, with experience using Excel and ERP/BI tools (e.g., IFS, Power BI) preferred.
- Experience conducting business case reviews, post-contract or post-project analysis, and identifying performance drivers and lessons learned.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior Operations, Commercial, and Executive stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while also managing quarterly and annual accounting cycles.
- Ability to take initiative and work on tasks independently or as part of a team.
