Operations Manager
Department: Operations
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Wesley Street
Description
This is a standout opportunity for a confident operations leader to take ownership of three busy recycling facilities in Leicester and shape how they perform every day. You will lead a sizeable operational workforce across the three sites, working through supervisors and frontline leaders to create a safe, disciplined and high-performing operation. You will lead the full operational journey: bringing waste into site, processing it safely and efficiently, improving recovery, controlling disposal routes and turning operational discipline into commercial value.
This is not a desk-bound management role. It is a visible, hands-on leadership position where you will set the rhythm across three sites, lead through supervisors and site teams, build strong routines, coach people, solve problems quickly and create the standards that help the Leicester operation perform safely, consistently and profitably.
The right person will enjoy pace, variety and accountability. You will understand how to run a production-led environment, how to get the best from people, and how to make commercial decisions that improve throughput, cost, quality and margin. If you like being close to the operation and seeing the direct impact of your work, this role offers real scope to make a difference.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership and Site Control
- Lead the day-to-day operation of three recycling facilities across Leicester, keeping Safety First, compliance and performance at the heart of every shift.
- Create strong operating routines so teams know what good looks like, what matters most and how performance will be measured.
- Manage incoming waste streams, production activity, plant utilisation, labour deployment, output quality and site standards with clear Ownership.
- Be a visible leader across all three sites, coaching supervisors, removing blockers and helping teams perform with pace, confidence and Teamwork.
- Lead, engage and develop a sizeable operational team across the three facilities, ensuring supervisors and frontline leaders have the clarity, support and accountability they need to deliver.
- Make Safety First practical and visible through daily conversations, decisions and improvement actions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
