As a shareholder member of the Pallet Track network, the company operates across over 90 depots, providing strong local knowledge with national and European reach. This breadth of services and expertise enables SSO Logistics to support every aspect of a customer’s supply chain.

Role Description

The Operations Manager (4 on 4 off) will oversee day-to-day logistics operations at the Haydock site to ensure safe, efficient, and timely movement of goods. This full-time, on-site role includes managing shift plans, coordinating transport and warehouse activities, monitoring service performance, and resolving operational issues. The role involves supervising and supporting team members, ensuring adherence to health and safety standards, and maintaining compliance with company policies and industry regulations. The Operations Manager will collaborate with internal departments and external partners to optimize workflows, control costs, and meet customer service expectations. Additional responsibilities include reporting on operational performance, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting training and development of team members.

  • Strong operations management skills, including shift planning, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.
  • Experience in logistics, transport, or warehousing environments, ideally within palletised distribution or freight forwarding.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and support diverse teams, fostering a collaborative and safety-focused culture.
  • Effective communication and relationship management skills for working with drivers, warehouse staff, customers, and partners.
  • Proficiency in using logistics or warehouse management systems and standard office software (e.g., spreadsheets, email, reporting tools).
  • Solid understanding of health and safety practices, compliance requirements, and risk management in an operational setting.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and cost efficiency.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within logistics or distribution is highly beneficial.
  • Flexibility to work a 4 on 4 off shift pattern and adapt to operational demands.
  • Relevant qualifications in logistics, supply chain, business management, or equivalent experience are advantageous.
