Employment - Full time

About the Role

Eden Scott is delighted to be the retained recruitment partner to Afternoon.

About Afternoon

Afternoon is building the operating system for modern financial advice firms. We are replacing fragmented systems and manual processes with one AI- and data-first platform that helps firms work faster, deliver better advice, and serve more clients.

At the heart of Afternoon is a genuinely difficult technical problem. We connect investment data from 27 platforms with client records, documents, meetings, and communications, then use AI to turn that information into dependable, source-attributed outputs. Firms can prepare for meetings, capture and structure conversations, maintain client records, create complex advice reports, and communicate with clients in one connected system.

Our growth over the past year has been strong. We are working with a rapidly growing number of advice firms, have a live B2B partnership with a UK bank, and are increasingly being recognised across the market. Afternoon won the lang cat's Advicetech Catwalk 2026, voted for by more than 150 advisers, and was named Professional Services Start-up of the Year for Scotland at the UK StartUp Awards. We were also selected for J.P. Morgan's Fintech Forward 2026 programme.

We are well capitalised, ambitious, and entering an important stage of growth. The team is still small enough for every new hire to shape the product, technical direction, and company we become, while solving problems that matter to a large and established industry.

The Opportunity

Afternoon is growing quickly, and we need someone who can stand back, see how the whole business fits together, and help us build the operational foundations for the next stage. This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who naturally notices where information gets lost, responsibilities are unclear, or one part of a process does not connect properly with the next.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You will work across the company, looking at how work flows between teams and turning good intentions into clear, practical processes. You will spot gaps, duplication, and avoidable mistakes, then bring the right people together to fix them. The role is not about adding unnecessary layers or producing process documents that nobody uses. It is about making Afternoon easier to run, easier to work in, and ready to grow.

You do not need to arrive knowing every answer. You do need the energy to investigate, the confidence to ask questions, and the determination to follow improvements through until they are working. For the right person, this is a rare opportunity to gain visibility across an ambitious technology company and make a noticeable difference from the outset.

What You Will Do

  • Review how work currently happens across the business and build a clear picture of our key operational processes.
  • Identify gaps, weak handovers, duplicated work, unclear ownership, and recurring mistakes, then recommend practical improvements.
  • Join up processes across areas including customers, sales, product, finance, recruitment, and internal operations.
  • Turn informal ways of working into simple, useful processes, checklists, templates, and operating rhythms that people will actually use.
  • Agree owners and deadlines, keep actions moving, and follow through until changes are embedded.
  • Introduce proportionate controls and checks so that important tasks are completed accurately and on time.
  • Use technology and automation to reduce manual administration and improve the quality and visibility of information.
  • Help organise company priorities, meetings, and quarterly updates so decisions and actions are clear.
  • Monitor whether new processes are working, gather feedback, and adjust them when the business changes.
  • Support a range of operational projects as Afternoon grows, taking ownership rather than waiting to be told every step.

What We Are Looking For

  • Someone who sees the whole picture and can understand how different teams, tasks, and systems affect one another.
  • Creative and practical thinking: you can find a better way through a problem without making the solution more complicated than it needs to be.
  • Strong initiative and the confidence to work independently, make progress, and bring people in when their input is needed.
  • Excellent organisation and follow-through, with the ability to set clear deadlines, maintain momentum, and keep commitments.
  • Adaptability: you can change direction when company priorities shift without losing sight of the outcome.
  • Clear, confident communication and the ability to build positive working relationships across a small team.
  • Strong IT literacy and confidence learning new systems, improving how tools are used, and working with data to understand what is happening.
  • Good judgement and attention to detail, including knowing when a small issue points to a wider operational problem.
  • The ability to work effectively in a remote environment, both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • The commitment and energy to take responsibility for a piece of work and see it through to completion.

Useful Additional Experience

  • Operations, project coordination, business improvement, or process design in a startup or growing small business.
  • Mapping end-to-end processes and improving handovers between teams.
  • Using project-management, CRM, workflow, or automation tools.
  • Creating management information, dashboards, or simple operational reporting.
  • Financial services, technology, or another regulated environment.

What We Offer

  • 25 days of annual leave, plus 9 bank holidays to be taken at a time of your choice.
  • A remote-first working environment, with quarterly travel to Glasgow and occasional travel for other team meetings when required.
  • A role with genuine breadth, autonomy, and visibility across the whole company.
  • The opportunity to shape how Afternoon operates as we move into our next stage of growth.
  • Direct access to the leadership team and the chance to see the impact of your work quickly.
  • A benefits package that will continue to develop with input from the team.
