Operations Manager – Winter Gritting & Ad-Hoc Works
We are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and resilient Regional Operations Manager to oversee our private winter gritting and reactive ad-hoc external works. Operating on a hybrid model, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing a robust network of external delivery partners and subcontractors.
This year-round role requires excellent logistics management, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to balance scheduled winter operations with reactive, ad-hoc operational requests. You will ensure commercial and retail client sites remain safe, operational, and compliant in every season through meticulous supply chain delivery.

- Location: Hybrid – blend of home working, office days in Suffolk, and regional site visits
- Position Type: Full-time, Permanent (Requires flexible/on-call hours during the winter season)

Key Responsibilities
Delivery Partner & Subcontractor Management
- Partner Coordination: Recruit, onboard, and manage regional delivery partners, winter maintenance operators, and agricultural contractors, particularly for peak winter scaling.
- SLA Enforcement: Hold external partners accountable to strict performance metrics, ensuring they deploy and complete gritting or emergency works within agreed timeframes.
- Compliance & Auditing: Audit partner documentation, ensuring all third-party vehicles, equipment, and public liability insurances meet company standards.
Ad-Hoc External Works Delivery
- Project Execution: Scope, quote, and coordinate the delivery of reactive, ad-hoc operational requests and minor external works via our partner network (e.g., storm damage clearance, fencing repairs, pothole patching, external cleaning, and site clearances).
- Quality Assurance: Conduct regular regional site audits to ensure partner repair and maintenance standards consistently meet operational requirements.
Regional Logistics & Network Activation
- Route & Territory Mapping: Allocate specific geographic zones and client sites to the most efficient local delivery partners.
- Network Activation: Receive activation alerts from our central desk and immediately coordinate the real-time deployment of regional partners ahead of freezing weather events.
- Salt & Supply Logistics: Coordinate the distribution of salt stocks, tools, and maintenance equipment across regional hubs and partner depots.

Key Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Subcontractor Management: Minimum of 3 years managing third-party logistics providers, delivery partners, or agricultural contractors.
- Logistics & Coordination: Proven track record in managing widespread regional networks, routing, or supply chains.
- Hybrid Accountability: Proven ability to manage large-scale operations remotely, staying highly organized while working from a home environment.
- Driving Licence: Clean, valid driver’s licence for regular travel to partner depots and client sites across the region.
Desirable (Preferable)
- Ad-Hoc Works Delivery: Experience scoping, quoting, or organizing reactive, short-notice external works packages (e.g., minor civils, exterior repairs, property clearances) through third parties.
- Industry Certifications: Qualifications such as City & Guilds 6159 (Winter Maintenance Operators/Supervisors) or IOSH/NEBOSH health and safety certifications.
