About WWMS
Waste Water Management Services (WWMS) provides reliable wastewater and tanker services to commercial, industrial, and utilities-sector clients throughout the UK.
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Operations Manager to oversee our day-to-day operations. This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, sound commercial judgement, and the ability to coordinate drivers, vehicles, customers, and internal teams in a fast-paced environment.
The Role
The Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring jobs are planned, allocated, and completed safely, efficiently, and profitably. You will lead the operational team, monitor service performance, resolve issues, and maintain clear communication with customers, drivers, management, and the accounts team.
You will also help strengthen operational processes, improve productivity, control costs, and ensure accurate job records are available for invoicing, payroll, and management reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily scheduling and allocation of tanker jobs, drivers, and vehicles.
- Ensure customer requirements and agreed service levels are consistently met.
- Supervise, support, and coordinate drivers and operational staff.
- Monitor jobs from initial booking through to completion.
- Respond quickly and professionally to delays, breakdowns, access issues, and other operational problems.
- Maintain regular communication with customers and provide accurate job updates.
- Ensure completed jobs, driver hours, daily timesheets, waste transfer notes, and supporting documents are submitted correctly and on time.
- Verify operational records before they are passed to the payroll and invoicing teams.
- Monitor vehicle utilisation, driver productivity, waiting time, and job profitability.
- Work closely with the fleet and maintenance teams to minimise vehicle downtime.
- Coordinate third-party suppliers and subcontractors when additional operational support is required.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety, environmental, transport, and waste-management requirements.
- Investigate service issues, complaints, incidents, and operational failures, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
- Produce and review management information, including completed jobs, driver hours, revenue, costs, utilisation, and service performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, customer service, and profitability.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management of operational employees.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and high professional standards across the operation.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties necessary to support the continued growth of the business.

Essential Experience and Skills
- Previous experience in operations management, transport, logistics, waste management, drainage, utilities, or a similar service-based industry.
- Proven experience managing drivers, field teams, or operational employees.
- Strong scheduling, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage several urgent priorities while maintaining accuracy.
- Confident and professional communication with customers, employees, suppliers, and senior management.
- Good commercial awareness, including an understanding of operational costs and job profitability.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to hold team members accountable.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and job-management or scheduling systems.
- Accurate record-keeping and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience
- Experience within wastewater, tanker, drainage, sewage, environmental services, or liquid-waste operations.
- Knowledge of waste transfer documentation and environmental compliance.
- Understanding of drivers’ hours, Working Time Directive requirements, and transport compliance.
- Experience reviewing operational data and preparing management reports.
- Experience supporting invoicing, payroll verification, or credit control.
- Transport Manager CPC or other relevant industry qualification.

This position would suit someone who combines strong people-management skills with excellent organisation and commercial awareness. You should be equally comfortable speaking with a driver about a job issue, updating a customer, reviewing performance figures, and reporting to senior management.
