Operations Manager – Manufacturing & Engineering
Lye, near Stourbridge, West Midlands
Salary: Up to £55,000
Hours: Monday to Thursday: 7:00am–4:00pm | Friday: 7:00am–1:00pm
An established manufacturing and engineering business based in Lye is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to take overall responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the site.
This is a hands-on senior management position with responsibility across production, engineering, maintenance, quality, health & safety, materials, logistics, and stores.
You’ll play a key role in improving operational performance, developing teams, increasing efficiency, and ensuring the business continues to meet its safety, quality, delivery, and customer requirements.
The Role
- Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the site
- Lead production activities and ensure output, quality, and delivery targets are achieved
- Manage, motivate, and develop teams across multiple operational functions
- Set and monitor KPIs, using performance data to identify areas for improvement
- Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to improve plant reliability and minimize downtime
- Drive improvements across productivity, efficiency, quality, and operating costs
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety and environmental compliance
- Work alongside the quality function to maintain standards and reduce repeat issues
- Oversee materials, stores, goods-in, despatch, and internal material movement
- Review and improve operational processes, procedures, and working practices
- Lead continuous improvement projects across the operation
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow, capacity, and resource utilization
- Work closely with senior management on operational strategy, investment, and business objectives

About You
We’re looking for an experienced operational leader with a strong background within manufacturing, engineering, production, or a similar industrial environment.
You should have:
- Previous experience as an Operations Manager, Site Manager, Manufacturing Manager, or similar
- Strong manufacturing and production experience
- Experience managing multiple operational functions
- A proven track record of improving operational performance
- Experience setting and monitoring KPIs
- Strong people management and leadership skills
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety and quality requirements
- Experience working closely with engineering and maintenance functions
- Understanding of materials, logistics, stores, or supply chain operations
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- A practical, hands-on approach to operational management

Desirable Experience
- Sage MRP or similar ERP/MRP systems
- NEBOSH qualification
- IOSH
- CNC and/or press shop experience
- Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Kaizen
- ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and/or ISO 45001
- Multi-site manufacturing experience
