Operations Manager – Commercial Cleaning

Salary: £35,000 per annum

Job Type: Full-time, 3-month temporary-to-permanent opportunity, with the potential for a permanent position based on performance and the successful renewal of a major client contract.

Location: Berkshire – Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham and surrounding areas

Start Date: Immediate start preferred

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable, organised and experienced Operations Manager to join our commercial cleaning company and oversee the day-to-day operation of our cleaning contracts across Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham and the surrounding Berkshire area.

This is a hands-on role involving team supervision, client communication, administration, payroll checks, rota management, and ensuring cleaning materials and stock levels are maintained and replenished as required.

You will be responsible for ensuring our cleaning teams are properly supervised, sites are adequately staffed and our clients receive a consistently high standard of service.

The successful candidate must be highly organised, confident communicating with customers and staff, and comfortable using Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

Key Responsibilities

Team Supervision & Operations

  • Supervise and manage cleaning teams across multiple commercial sites.
  • Ensure cleaning teams attend their scheduled shifts and sites are properly staffed.
  • Monitor the performance and standards of cleaning operatives.
  • Carry out regular site visits and quality checks.
  • Provide support, guidance and feedback to supervisors and cleaning staff.
  • Deal with staff attendance, sickness, holidays and operational issues.
  • Arrange cover when required to ensure there are no gaps in service.
  • Ensure company procedures, cleaning standards and health & safety requirements are followed.
  • Identify and resolve operational problems quickly and professionally.

Rotas & Scheduling

  • Prepare and manage staff rotas and cleaning schedules.
  • Organise holiday and sickness cover.
  • Make adjustments to rotas when customer requirements or staffing levels change.
  • Ensure the correct staff are allocated to the correct sites and shifts.
  • Maintain accurate records of staffing and scheduled hours.

Payroll & Administration

  • Check timesheets and payroll accuracy files before payroll is processed.
  • Verify staff hours, attendance and scheduled shifts.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in payroll information.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and administrative files.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to manage spreadsheets, rotas, timesheets, payroll checks, trackers and reports.
  • Ensure information is kept up to date and accurately recorded.

Customer & Email Management

  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer and client emails.
  • Deal with general enquiries and customer requests.
  • Respond to and follow up on customer feedback and complaints.
  • Communicate with clients regarding cleaning schedules, staffing and service requirements.
  • Coordinate changes to cleaning schedules and respond to urgent requests.
  • Maintain strong and professional relationships with customers.
  • Use Microsoft Outlook confidently for email communication, diary management and scheduling.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in an Operations Manager, Area Manager, Cleaning Manager, Contract Manager or similar role.
  • Ideally experienced within commercial cleaning or facilities management.
  • Confident supervising teams and managing staff across multiple locations.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong in administration and able to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Confident dealing with customers and handling feedback professionally.
  • Comfortable checking payroll information, timesheets and staff hours.
  • Experienced in preparing and managing rotas.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
  • A clear and professional communicator, both written and verbally.
  • Practical, reliable and able to solve problems independently.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced operational environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous management, supervisory or operational experience.
  • Strong administration and organisational skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience managing staff rotas and schedules.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail when checking figures, hours and records.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel between sites across Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham and surrounding Berkshire areas.
  • Available for an immediate or near-immediate start.
