Operations Manager (Head of Operations / General Manager)

Hull – Circa £50,000 to £70,000

Up to £70,000, dependent on experience, plus benefits

Hull – candidates should be within a comfortable commuting distance

Candidates with experience within the M&E sector, especially commercial plumbing, heating or electrical, at regional, area or large branch / depot / store manager level will be of particular interest.

Company Overview:

A well-established and growing commercial and industrial trade services business based in Hull is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to help shape the next phase of its growth. Founded and led by its owner – a hands-on operator with a strong reputation for customer service and business development – the company is scaling quickly and now needs a dedicated senior operator to build out stronger systems and structure, allowing the owner to focus on client relationships and growth. This is a genuine General Manager / Head of Operations position, offering a senior right-hand role with real autonomy.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing day-to-day operations, scheduling and resource planning across commercial and industrial contracts
  • Developing and embedding scalable back-office systems – accounts, invoicing, purchase orders, compliance and reporting
  • Professionalising processes as the business grows, bringing consistency and structure
  • Managing and developing office and operational support staff
  • Working closely with the owner as a genuine right-hand / second-in-command, turning commercial wins into smooth operational delivery
  • Driving accountability, KPIs and commercial discipline across the business

Skills and Experience:

  • Operations, general management or regional management experience gained within M&E, plumbing, heating, gas, or electrical contracting is strongly preferred
  • Candidates from wider trades, construction or related commercial/industrial environments will also be considered
  • A track record of building or scaling operational and administrative processes – accounts oversight, compliance, reporting, systems
  • Strong people management and leadership experience
  • Comfortable operating as a senior number two to an entrepreneurial owner
  • Ideal backgrounds include a Regional Operations Manager from M&E, plumbing & heating, or electrical contracting, or a large branch/depot manager from a similar trade business looking to step up into a broader general management role
