- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
The Role
Enhance the Operating Engine of an Ambitious Awarding Body & Publisher. Join a small UK team within a larger global organization. We are looking for an ambitious, highly capable and hands-on Operations Manager to help grow and run the operational engine of the Digital Skills Authority, a global industry awarding body and publishing business.
This is a genuine opportunity to roll your sleeves up and build things. You will not simply inherit established processes and keep them running. You will help design how the organisation operates, build teams, create processes, introduce systems, deliver events and continuously find better ways of working. The role sits across people, processes, technology, AI and delivery. If you speak international languages, you’ll get to use those too.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We are looking for someone who is highly organised and operationally excellent, but also naturally curious about technology and the possibilities of AI. You should be the sort of person who sees a repetitive process and asks whether it can be automated, sees a new technology and considers how it could improve the business, and understands that the best operations combine great people with great systems.
Key Responsibilities
Business Operations & Process Design
- Design, implement and continuously improve business processes across the organisation.
- Turn ideas and requirements into practical, scalable operational systems.
- Map workflows, identify inefficiencies and introduce better ways of working.
- Develop processes, SOPs, checklists, documentation and operational playbooks.
- Establish appropriate quality standards, controls and performance measures.
- Lead operational projects and new initiatives from idea through to implementation.
- Provide hands-on operational support wherever needed.
People & Teams
- Recruit, onboard and manage operational team members as the business grows.
- Help design team structures, roles and responsibilities.
- Establish clear ways of working, accountability and performance standards.
- Build a highly effective, collaborative and service-focused operational culture.
- Determine where activities are best delivered by people, external partners, technology or AI.
- Develop effective training and onboarding processes.
Technology, Systems & AI
- Take an active role in identifying, selecting and implementing technology that improves the way the business operates.
- Ensure operational systems and platforms are fit for purpose and work effectively together.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive, administrative and manual processes.
- Explore and implement practical uses of AI and Agentic AI across the business.
- Consider how AI can support customer service, administration, publishing, quality assurance, research, event management and internal workflows.
- Test and evaluate emerging technologies and turn useful ideas into practical business solutions.
- Work with external technology providers, developers and specialists where appropriate.
- Ensure technology enhances human capability rather than creating unnecessary complexity.
Events, Awards & Training
- Plan and manage the operational delivery of training, events and awards.
- Source and manage venues and suppliers.
- Manage catering, technology, security, logistics and access.
- Coordinate speakers, guests, judges and other stakeholders.
- Develop event plans, schedules, checklists and operational processes.
- Ensure events run smoothly, professionally and to a consistently high standard.
- Take ownership of problems and resolve them quickly when things don't go according to plan.
Publishing & Delivery
- Manage operational processes for publishing, production and delivery.
- Coordinate materials, suppliers, production schedules and distribution.
- Establish quality-control processes to ensure materials are accurate and delivered on time.
- Identify opportunities to use technology and AI to improve publishing and delivery workflows.

Customer Services

About You
You are a doer, builder and problem solver. You enjoy taking something that is not yet fully formed and making it work. You are comfortable moving between the strategic and the practical — designing a process in the morning, recruiting a team member in the afternoon and sorting out the logistics for an event the next day. You will be:
- Highly organised, structured and reliable.
- Commercially minded and focused on outcomes.
- Naturally curious and interested in how things can be done better.
- Highly comfortable with technology and modern business systems.
- Excited by AI, automation and the possibilities of Agentic AI.
- A strong project manager who can manage multiple priorities.
- Confident managing people, suppliers and external partners.
- Detail-oriented without becoming bureaucratic.
- A clear and confident communicator.
- Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial and fast-moving environment.
- Happy to get into the detail and do the work when required.
- Someone who takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do.
Most importantly, you are someone who instinctively asks: “How could we do this better?” You will have the opportunity to help build the systems, processes, teams and culture that underpin an ambitious organisation — and to shape an operation that makes intelligent use of people, technology and AI from the outset.
