Operations Manager

Salary – £65,000 - £77,000 per year
Hours – 38 hours per week
Location – Eastcroft Energy from Waste Facility, Nottinghamshire, NG2 3JH

As an Operations Manager at FCC Environment, you will fulfil a senior role within the site management team and be responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of the Eastcroft Energy from Waste facility. You will provide leadership and direction to the Operations team while ensuring high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and operational performance are maintained.

This vacancy is for a full-time position.

What will you be doing?

  • Managing all aspects of the safe, compliant and efficient operation of the Eastcroft Energy from Waste facility.
  • Implementing FCC Health, Safety and Environmental Management systems and maintaining high standards across all Operations department activities.
  • Managing the site’s safe systems of work in accordance with the FCC Safety Rules.
  • Leading site safety forums, including regular procedure and safety system reviews.
  • Providing leadership, direction, management and development to the Operations team.
  • Building and maintaining a positive team culture where employees are supported to develop and contribute to their full potential.
  • Managing cooperation between the Operations and Maintenance teams, including the development and use of the site’s computerised maintenance management system.
  • Leading the development, delivery and ongoing review of operational procedures.
  • Managing, supervising, planning and coordinating departmental activities to support plant availability, flexibility and performance.
  • Developing and managing out-of-hours Operations team cover arrangements.
  • Supporting the safe and timely delivery of planned and unplanned equipment and facility outages.
  • Developing effective working relationships between the Operations department and other site teams.
  • Preparing and managing contracts for external technical support when required.
  • Managing the development and delivery of the departmental budget.
  • Deputising for the EfW General Manager when required.

What are we looking for?

  • At a minimum, an HND qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of five years’ supervisory experience within an operations and engineering function relating to steam-powered electricity generation.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of Electricity Supply Industry safe systems of work, Safety Rules and Permit to Work systems.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of process plant associated with steam-powered electricity generation.
  • Experience of working within a technically challenging and value-driven environment.
  • Strong computer literacy.
  • Strong leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • The proven ability to build, develop and inspire effective teams and deliver measurable results through others.
  • The ability to communicate, influence and work collaboratively at all levels.
  • The ability to manage third parties effectively.
  • A flexible, resilient and performance-driven approach.
  • A NEBOSH or IOSH qualification would be desirable.
  • Experience within mass burn Energy from Waste would be desirable.
  • Experience of identifying and delivering change programmes that positively influence operational and business requirements would be desirable.
