A well-established and rapidly growing structural engineering consultancy operating across London, Kent, and Essex is looking for an Operations Manager to join the team in Sevenoaks. They deliver innovative, technically rigorous engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects - from residential and commercial new-builds to complex industrial and infrastructure schemes.

You will take ownership of the day-to-day running of the engineering operations, ensuring that the company's people, processes, systems, and facilities operate smoothly and efficiently so that the engineering team can focus on delivering excellent work for clients. The role spans finance and invoicing support, IT and systems coordination, and quality management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, document, and continuously improve internal processes and standard operating procedures across the engineering side of the business.
  • Manage company software subscriptions, licenses, and IT arrangements in conjunction with external IT support.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, holiday and absence tracking, and employment documentation in line with UK employment law and GDPR.
  • Oversee invoicing, credit control, and accounts payable processes in liaison with the company and accountants.
  • Monitor project fee budgets, work-in-progress, and resource utilisation, producing regular management information for Engineering Director.
  • Support the preparation and tracking of fee proposals and appointment documentation.
  • Manage payroll inputs, expenses.
  • Ensure GDPR compliance and good information management practice across the business.

What we're looking for in an Operations Manager

  • Proven experience in an operations, office management, or business management role, ideally within a professional services, engineering, or construction-related environment.
  • Strong financial literacy, including experience with invoicing, budgets, and management reporting.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and cloud-based business systems.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom - applicants must be UK residents.
  • Experience within an engineering, architectural, or construction consultancy environment.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g. ISO 9001) and document control.
