Job Description:
OPERATIONS MANAGER - British Young Pilots
Help us run one of the UK’s fastest-growing youth aviation programmes. British Young Pilots (BYP) introduces young people aged 11–17 to the world of aviation, combining ground school, flight simulation and real flying as students progress through our syllabus towards gaining their own pilot’s licence.
We now operate more than 50 club locations across the UK, running multiple evening and weekend classes and supporting thousands of young people on their aviation journey. And we’re growing fast. We’re looking for a brilliant Operations Manager to make sure it all works.
THE ROLE This is a busy, varied and hands-on role at the heart of BYP. You’ll take responsibility for the smooth running of our network of evening and weekend clubs – making sure the right venues, instructors, classes and systems are all in place, while helping us deliver a fantastic experience for students and parents. On any given day, you might be:
- Making sure 50+ club locations are properly set up and ready to run.
- Coordinating venues, dates, timetables and class capacity.
- Ensuring instructors are allocated to every class.
- Making sure new classes and terms are correctly loaded onto our booking system.
- Solving the inevitable operational problems that crop up in a fast-moving national organisation.
- Working with our marketing team to make sure clubs are promoted effectively and places are filled.
- Monitoring bookings and identifying clubs that need an extra commercial push.
- Communicating with students and parents throughout their time with BYP.
- Helping new students get started and existing students progress through the BYP syllabus.
- Driving customer retention through excellent organisation, communication and service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

THIS ISN’T JUST AN ADMIN JOB There’s a strong commercial and customer-service element to the role. We want our clubs to be full, our students to come back term after term, and parents to feel that BYP is exceptionally well organised. You’ll therefore work closely with our marketing, instructor and customer teams to make sure the whole operation joins up – from someone first discovering BYP to progressing through our programme towards becoming a pilot.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR You don’t necessarily need an aviation background. You do need to be the sort of person who gets things done.

You’ll be:
- Highly organised – comfortable keeping track of lots of moving parts.
- Self-managing – someone who spots what needs doing rather than waiting to be told.
- Hard-working and dependable – if something needs sorting, you sort it.
- Commercially aware – you understand that great operations also means full classes and happy, returning customers.
- Great with people – confident dealing with instructors, venues, parents, students and colleagues.
- Detail-focused – because small operational mistakes can have a big impact.
- And, above all, you’ll care about doing a really good job.
WHY BYP? BYP is a young, ambitious and rapidly growing organisation with a simple mission: to make aviation accessible to far more young people. You’ll join a friendly, entrepreneurial team where ideas are welcomed, decisions are made quickly and you can genuinely see the impact of your work. It’s busy. Occasionally chaotic. Rarely boring.
But when you see a young person who started with us in a classroom progress towards taking the controls of a real aircraft, it’s incredibly rewarding. If you love making complicated things run brilliantly, we’d love to hear from you.
