Operations Officer - Finance

Department: Operations

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Remote

Description

Position overview

Avaaz is searching for a mission-driven Operations Officer (Finance) to join its multicultural and international team in a full-time role. The Finance team supports Avaaz’s campaigns and global operations through accurate financial records, reliable payments, and timely financial information.

The role will support day-to-day finance operations across Avaaz’s US and UK entities, including accounts payable, expense reporting, reconciliations, and support for financial reporting and audits. You will take responsibility for assigned processes, provide cover across the team, and help improve how we work as our systems and operations develop.

The position calls for strong attention to detail, dependable follow-through, and clear communication with colleagues and vendors. The Operations Officer (Finance) will report to a member of the Finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned payment and accounts payable workflows, including reviewing invoices, coding transactions, and preparing payments across multiple platforms and currencies.
  • Check that payments and expenses have the required approvals and supporting documentation, and follow up on missing information or discrepancies.
  • Review credit card and expense reports and arrange or provide approvals within delegated authority.
  • Apply the correct entity, currency, account, and project coding, seeking guidance where the treatment is unclear.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and support bank, payment-platform, and other account reconciliations, investigating and resolving differences.
  • Support monthly and quarterly close, financial reporting, and audits by preparing schedules, checking data, and responding to information requests.
  • Help maintain assigned financial trackers, such as revenue, grants, advances, or budget expenditure, and flag discrepancies or outstanding items.
  • Communicate clearly with vendors, colleagues, and budget holders to resolve queries and obtain timely information, escalating delays or competing priorities early.
  • Keep financial records and process documentation organized and accessible, and provide clear handovers and backup cover for colleagues, including payments.
  • Apply and explain Finance policies, protect confidential information, and follow agreed financial controls and compliance procedures.
  • Contribute to process and system improvements through documentation, testing, data checks, and adoption of approved tools and automation.
  • Work with colleagues across Operations and campaigns on financial processes and undertake other appropriate Finance responsibilities as agreed.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
