Operations Planning Manager

Location: Henley-on-Thames

About HVL Solutions

HVL Solutions is a specialist provider of valve inspection, maintenance, repair, and emergency services to the UK water and utilities sectors. Due to continued growth across Southern England, we are looking for an experienced Operations Planning Manager to join our team in Henley-on-Thames.

The Role

The Operations Planning Manager will oversee the planning and coordination of our Southern operations, ensuring that work is properly prepared, scheduled, and delivered.

You will manage the planning team and act as the central link between customers, engineers, project supervisors, technical management, and senior directors. This is a hands-on position requiring strong leadership, organisation, and commercial awareness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and support the planning and scheduling team.
  • Review incoming purchase orders and customer instructions.
  • Ensure work is scheduled within the required timescales.
  • Allocate engineers, vehicles, equipment, and project supervisors.
  • Liaise with customers to agree on suitable attendance dates.
  • Hold daily operational meetings to review workloads, priorities, and outstanding actions.
  • Ensure RAMS, surveys, reports, materials, and technical information are available before work begins.
  • Coordinate emergency and reactive work alongside planned projects.
  • Monitor job progress and resolve operational or scheduling problems.
  • Ensure completed reports are reviewed and submitted promptly.
  • Identify recommendations, additional works, and quotation opportunities.
  • Make sure completed jobs are ready for invoicing without unnecessary delays.
  • Monitor team performance, productivity, and operational standards.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management.
  • Maintain clear accountability across planners, supervisors, and field teams.
  • Support the continued development of HVL’s Southern operation.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in operations management, planning, scheduling, or project coordination.
  • Experience managing planners, engineers, or field-based teams.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
  • The confidence to manage customers, employees, and operational pressures.
  • Good commercial awareness and an understanding of job costs and profitability.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
  • Strong IT and reporting skills.
  • Experience within the water, utilities, engineering, construction, or maintenance sectors would be advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence.
