Job Description
Operative - Civils
Location: Rochford
Position Type: Permanent/Full time
Compensation: Competitive Salary plus company benefits.
About the Role
Operatives are to assist in the delivery of on-site project works to a safe, compliant and to a high standard of workmanship. You will play a vital role in supporting the operational activities necessary for the delivery of utility services to our customers.
The operative will be responsible to the Lead Operative
Responsibilities:
- To work safely at all times and ensure the safety of all those working around them.
- To comply with the requirements of the company policies, procedures and relevant risk assessments and method statements.
- To report all accidents, incidents and near misses.
- To attend Stand Downs, Team Briefs and Toolbox Talks.
- Follow instructions from the Lead Operative or site supervisor / site manager to complete tasks efficiently.
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment as required.
- To attend training and update courses as required.
- Keep the work area clean, organised, and free from hazards.
- To assist with accurately recording details of work undertaken.
- Operate plant and machinery (where trained and certified).
- To represent the company in a professional manner at all times to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with other team members, including engineers and supervisors, to coordinate workflow and achieve operational objectives.
- Operate and maintain hand tools and power tools required for drainage work.
- Interact with customers in a courteous and professional manner.
- Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
- To maintain the equipment in a serviceable condition at all times

Qualifications
About You:
- Previous experience in drainage or civils construction.
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- Good understanding of health and safety practices on construction sites.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual labour.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel to various sites (working away) and work flexible hours.
- Strong understanding of drainage systems.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:
- CPCS or NPORS certification for plant operation (e.g., excavator, dumper).
- Streetworks qualification (NRSWA).
- Confined space training.
- First Aid certification.
- Good IT skills including ability to use mobile devices such as Mobile Phones & PDA’s
