Job Overview
Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the leading provider of eye health services in the UK and a world-class centre of excellence for ophthalmic research and education. Ophthalmic Imaging is a specialised form of Medical Photography. This imaging specialism is dedicated to the recording and treatment of many disorders of the eye, both common and rare. Moorfields Eye Hospital has had an Imaging Service since the late 1960s and to this day, Medical Imaging continues to provide a Gold Standard service across a broad range of clinical imaging techniques. The imaging service at Moorfields Eye Hospital is one of the largest of its kind in the United Kingdom, and plays a critical role in supporting the main aim of Moorfields, to be the Centre of Excellence in Ophthalmic care. Our dedicated team of skilled Ophthalmic Healthcare Science practitioners hold a broad range of expertise in providing a comprehensive imaging service.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior OVS practitioner, you will be a self-motivated, proactive individual with both excellent time management and organisational skills. You will be an integral member of the medical imaging team to provide high-quality Diagnostic Imaging Services mainly at the Croydon sites and on occasions across the South Divisional sites when the service needs arise. The role encompasses supporting junior staff to develop skills and help to embed a continuous quality improvement culture across the service. The postholder will act as an exemplar and professional role model in embracing core values of excellence, equity, and kindness. There may be a requirement to work across sites, for which you will receive adequate notification.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Provide diagnostic imaging services across the Croydon sites including the diagnostic hubs, and to provide cross-cover at other sites within the South Division when service needs arise on a short-term basis.
- Undertake a range of digital angiography and imaging procedures requiring expertise underpinned by theoretical knowledge of the principles underlying fundus photography, digital angiography, autofluorescence imaging, and optical coherence tomography.
- Making judgements involving a range of facts which require analysis and comparison to optimise images obtained during Retinal Photography, OCT and Auto fluorescence (e.g. strategies to overcome small pupils, eye movement, cataract, blinking or a combination of these during Imaging).
- Well-developed physical skills to fulfil duties to capture high-quality images during angiography.
- Perform retinal imaging and image analysis using current standard techniques.
- Perform imaging of the external eye and ocular adnexa.
- Perform slit lamp imaging of the anterior segment of the eye using tropical strains as appropriate.
- Responsible for the safe use of expensive and highly technical imaging equipment: Spectral Domain and Swept Source OCT Scanners, ie., Topcon, Heidelberg Spectralis, Optovue, Zeiss, CASIA OCT scanners

- Heidelberg and Optos auto-fluorescence systems.

- Degree or equivalent experience in photography / imaging sciences.

- Over two years’ experience of imaging
- Knowledge and understanding of anatomy and pathology of the eye
- Fluorescein angiography/ICG imaging experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience of use with a range of devices including Heidelberg, Topcon, Optos, Optovue, and Zeiss
