The team provides tailored advice, full eye tests, glaucoma monitoring, child-friendly consultations, and DVLA-approved drivers’ vision assessments. Patients can choose from a wide range of frames, sunglasses with 100% UV protection, sports eyewear, and various contact lens options, supported by experienced dispensing staff available without appointment. Additional services include specialist lenses, earwax removal, hearing tests, and flexible monthly Direct Debit payment options.
Role Description
The Optical Assistant role is a full-time, on-site position based at Coleman Opticians Hearing & Vision Centre in the Greater Norwich Area, United Kingdom. The Optical Assistant will greet and assist patients, manage appointments, and support the dispensing team in helping individuals select frames and lenses suited to their prescriptions, preferences, and budgets. Day-to-day tasks include taking basic patient details, pre-screening tests as trained, guiding patients through eyewear and contact lens choices, handling payments, and maintaining accurate records. The role also involves keeping the practice clean and organized, supporting optometrists and hearing care professionals during busy clinics, and delivering a welcoming, professional experience for visitors of all ages.

- Experience in customer service and front-of-house support in a healthcare, retail, or similar environment.
- Ability to assist with frame selection, basic lens options, and product recommendations in line with professional guidance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and professional manner toward patients of all ages.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail for managing bookings, records, and daily practice routines.
- Comfort with using computer systems for scheduling, data entry, and point-of-sale activities.
- Willingness to learn optical and hearing care concepts, with training or prior experience in an optical setting considered an advantage.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, follow clinical procedures, and maintain confidentiality.
