Job Purpose

Umicore Coating Services are currently looking to recruit an Optical Coating Technician to work at its thin-film optical coatings site based in Dundee. This is a permanent full-time position in a well-established organisation that manufactures products of the highest quality that are supplied globally.

Your Key Accountabilities

Reporting directly to the Production Supervisor, you will:

  • Prepare and operate a variety of thin-film optical coating machines and equipment
  • Load, unload, and inspect precision optics
  • Scan post-production parts to collect reflection, absorption, and transmission data
  • Conduct environmental performance testing of optics
  • Interpret specification drawings and ensure machine set-up is correct
  • Monitor production to help avoid system failures and coating defects
  • Exceed customer expectations with high quality and yields
  • Adhere to company health and safety procedures
  • Work as a team to succeed

Who we are looking for

Full training will be provided to the successful applicant, but we are looking for the following attributes and skills:

  • An initiative-taking mindset and a flexible approach to work
  • Good manual dexterity skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • The ability to read and understand job orders/instructions
  • Experience with operating PC/PLC based machinery
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of our team
  • Awareness of 5S and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel)
  • Experience in similar production environment may be an advantage, but not essential

The Benefits

  • 37.5 hour working week (Mon-Fri) plus overtime potential
  • Base salary commensurate with experience
  • 28-day holiday allowance incl. bank holidays

After 3-month probation period:

  • Bonus: Eligible for performance related bonus scheme
  • Pension: Up to 6% employee match
