Role Description

The Optical Dispenser role at Specsavers Huddersfield is a full-time, on-site position focused on helping customers select and fit eyewear that meets their clinical needs and lifestyle preferences. Day-to-day tasks include:

The Optical Dispenser supports customers throughout their visit, from initial consultation through aftercare, working closely with optometrists and other team members to create a seamless customer journey. The role also involves:

  • Maintaining product knowledge
  • Handling basic adjustments and repairs
  • Contributing to a welcoming, efficient store environment

Accurate recordkeeping, adherence to clinical standards, and commitment to customer satisfaction are essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundational knowledge in optics and optometry, with the ability to interpret prescriptions and explain lens options clearly.
  • Demonstrated customer service and customer satisfaction skills, including active listening and problem-solving in a retail or clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with eye exams and the eyecare pathway, working effectively with optometrists and clinical teams.
  • Attention to detail and manual dexterity for precise measurements, frame adjustments, and dispensing tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information in an accessible way.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing customer needs.
  • Previous experience in optical dispensing or a similar eyecare role is preferred; relevant certification or training in optics is an advantage.
  • Basic computer skills for managing customer records and using point-of-sale and practice management systems.
