Location: Colchester
Contract Type: Part-time, permanent
Hours: 9.5 hours per week, Fridays only
Salary: Up to £77,625 FTE, depending on experience, pro rata for part-time hours

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading private specialist eye care provider for an experienced Optometrist based in Colchester.

This is a fantastic part-time opportunity for a GOC-registered Optometrist with refractive experience who is looking to work within a modern, patient-focused ophthalmology setting. The role is for 1 day per week on Fridays, offering 9.5 hours per week and access to excellent training and development opportunities.

You will work as part of a skilled multi-disciplinary team alongside consultants and clinical colleagues, supporting patients across cataract and refractive pathways. This role would suit an Optometrist who is confident carrying out pre-operative and post-operative consultations and assessing patients’ suitability for treatment.

The Role

As an Optometrist, you will support the delivery of high-quality clinical care within a specialist eye care environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out examinations associated with cataract and refractive surgery
  • Completing pre-operative and post-operative consultations
  • Running acute and follow-up clinics for post-surgery patients
  • Accurately documenting findings using electronic medical record systems
  • Providing clinical advice, health advice, and support to patients
  • Referring patients to a medical practitioner where required
  • Working closely with consultants, nurses, and wider clinical colleagues
  • Following clinical governance, CQC, equipment safety, and mandatory training requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Current GOC registration as a fully qualified Optometrist
  • Refractive experience is essential
  • Experience working as an Optometrist in a refractive, high street, hospital, or specialist clinical setting
  • Experience using patient administration systems and electronic medical record systems
  • Confidence working with conversion targets and KPIs within vision correction
  • Strong communication skills and a patient-focused approach
  • Good IT skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Availability to work Fridays
