About this Role

We are seeking an experienced Oracle BSS Stack Lead to take end-to-end ownership of Vodafone’s Oracle Business Support Systems landscape. You will lead the stability, resilience, availability and continual improvement of business-critical platforms, including Siebel CRM, Oracle OSM, Oracle BRM and associated Oracle telecommunications applications.

Based in Newbury and reporting to the Market Lead, this role sits within Application Operations and IT Operations. You will be the principal customer contact for critical BSS incidents and programmes, providing technical authority across operational excellence, release governance, stakeholder management and DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering transformation.


What you’ll do

  • Own the end-to-end operation of Oracle BSS platforms, including their availability, reliability, performance and resilience.
  • Define and deliver technical roadmaps aligned with Vodafone UK business priorities.
  • Lead capacity planning, proactive risk management and continual service improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with service-level agreements, operational KPIs and Service Management requirements.
  • Lead technical recovery activities during major incidents and support timely service restoration.
  • Govern Problem Management, root cause analysis and the implementation of preventative actions.
  • Reduce mean time to recovery and prevent recurring incidents through data-led operational improvements.
  • Own production-readiness reviews and govern deployment and rollback strategies.
  • Coordinate release planning across multiple environments and ensure compliance with Change Management controls.
  • Drive automation across deployment, monitoring and operational processes.
  • Implement continuous integration and continuous delivery capabilities using Jenkins, GitHub and Azure DevOps.
  • Define observability standards using Dynatrace, Splunk and other enterprise monitoring tools.
  • Reduce repetitive operational activity through sustainable automation.
  • Build trusted working relationships with customer stakeholders, business teams and support functions.
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for critical BSS platform matters.
  • Manage engagement with Oracle and other third-party vendors.
  • Provide executive updates, operational reporting and clear assessments of service risks.
  • Partner with Architecture, Delivery and Business teams to support service and technology priorities.
  • Lead and mentor L1, L2 and L3 support engineers.
  • Build technical capability through structured knowledge management, onboarding and workforce planning.
  • Promote collaborative DevOps and SRE practices across the organisation.

Who you are

  • You have extensive experience in telecommunications IT and Oracle BSS environments.
  • You bring strong Oracle telecommunications BSS expertise, preferably in Siebel CRM or, alternatively, Oracle BRM.
  • You have at least five years’ experience leading application support or operational teams.
  • You have managed critical production services and led major-incident recovery.
  • You can administer Unix or Linux environments and use Oracle SQL for performance analysis and troubleshooting.
  • You understand Incident, Problem, Change and Release Management within an ITIL-aligned environment.
  • You have practical experience of production operations, service support, stakeholder management and vendor engagement.
  • You understand DevOps and SRE practices and have delivered automation or operational improvement initiatives.
  • You communicate complex technical matters clearly to technical teams, business stakeholders and senior decision-makers.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, containers and Kubernetes would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability platforms would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Oracle OSS components would be advantageous but is not essential.
