Oracle Database Design Assurance Lead — Contract — Inside IR35
Duration: 6 months initial, with extension likely
Location: Remote first with occasional travel
Start: Within 2 weeks post offer
Sector: Banking / financial services
The role
A UK bank is running a large-scale data migration against a live Oracle estate. They need an experienced Oracle specialist to sit inside the design authority and make sure nothing reaches production that shouldn't.
This is an assurance and governance role, not a build role. You won't be writing the migration scripts — you'll be reviewing them, challenging them, and setting the conditions under which they're allowed to run against a system that's still serving customers.
What you'll actually be doing
- Reviewing high-level and low-level designs for technical accuracy, supportability, dependencies, capacity constraints, and failure scenarios
- Reviewing SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, packages, and extraction scripts — identifying inefficient joins, full table scans, poor cursor handling, inappropriate hints, transaction risk, and restartability gaps
- Assessing performance and capacity impact: execution plans, optimizer behaviour, statistics, indexing, partitioning, wait events, locking, I/O, TEMP, UNDO, archive log, and redo generation
- Protecting live service — recommending safe batch sizes, scheduling windows, query time-outs, throttling, workload isolation, read-only replicas, standby databases, and snapshots
- Supporting full, incremental, and delta extraction, reconciliation, referential integrity, sequencing, cutover, rollback, and validation
- Defining health checks, alerting thresholds, abort criteria, implementation plans, runbooks, backout plans, and post-migration monitoring, within formal change-management governance

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
