Position Description

As an Oracle Database Administrator, you’ll take ownership of production environments, solve complex operational challenges and contribute ideas that strengthen performance, availability and security. Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance.
Location: Leatherhead, Surrey – this role requires you to work from the CGI Leatherhead office five days per week.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will administer and support Oracle database environments underpinning secure, mission-critical systems. You’ll take ownership of day-to-day production database administration, including patching, maintenance and troubleshooting, helping ensure services remain secure, stable and available.
You’ll work collaboratively with technical specialists across CGI, bringing your own ideas and expertise to complex problems while having access to the support and knowledge of our wider community. You’ll also have opportunities to work across Oracle Multitenant, backup and recovery, performance optimisation, middleware, Solaris, ZFS and Windows environments.

- Administer & Support – Manage production Oracle databases, maintaining availability, stability and performance.
- Patch & Maintain – Deliver Oracle CPU/RU patching using OPatch and Datapatch, diagnosing and resolving patching issues.
- Troubleshoot & Resolve – Investigate database, SQL and performance issues using appropriate Oracle diagnostic tools.
- Protect & Recover – Support backup and recovery activities using RMAN.
- Manage & Optimise – Administer Oracle Multitenant CDB/PDB environments, including maintenance, cloning and troubleshooting.
- Analyse & Improve – Use AWR/ASH and SQL analysis to identify issues and improve database performance.
- Collaborate & Innovate – Work with colleagues across technical disciplines to develop practical solutions to complex operational challenges.
- Support Wider Platforms – Where required, contribute to Oracle WebLogic/FMW, Solaris, ZFS and Oracle database services running on Windows Server.
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
You’ll bring strong hands-on Oracle production DBA experience and proven expertise in Oracle database patching. You should be comfortable taking responsibility for database services in demanding production environments, approaching problems methodically and working collaboratively to deliver reliable outcomes. Experience across the wider Oracle and Solaris technology stack would strengthen your contribution, with support available to broaden your knowledge further.
- Strong hands-on production Oracle Database Administration experience.
- Strong Oracle patching experience, including CPU/RU, OPatch, Datapatch and patch troubleshooting.
- Experience administering and troubleshooting Oracle Multitenant CDB/PDB environments, including cloning and maintenance.
- Experience with Oracle backup and recovery using RMAN.
- Knowledge of AWR/ASH, SQL and database performance troubleshooting.
- Experience with Oracle Solaris production support, OS management, SRU patching, networking and Zones administration.
- Knowledge of ZFS administration, including pools, datasets, snapshots, capacity and filesystem troubleshooting.
- Experience administering Oracle databases on Windows Server, including services, patching and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to Oracle Fusion Middleware/WebLogic administration, patching and troubleshooting would be beneficial.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, security-focused technical environment.
- You must hold, or be eligible to obtain, the required UK Security Clearance.
