Oracle Database Administrator (DBA)
We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to join our Hosting and Cloud Operations team, supporting the databases for our customer-facing solutions.
This is a hands-on technical role focused on the operational support, optimization, security, and continuous improvement of business-critical Oracle database platforms hosted across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Amazon Web Services (AWS RDS) and Linux-based infrastructure.
The successful candidate will combine strong Oracle database administration skills with Linux system administration experience and cloud platform expertise. You will play a key role in ensuring the availability, performance, resilience, and security of production environments supporting customers across the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities
Oracle Database Administration
- Administer, maintain, and support Oracle Database environments across development, test, and production platforms.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning improvements.
- Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Perform database upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Troubleshoot database issues and provide root-cause analysis.
- Implement and maintain database security, auditing, and compliance controls.
- Support high-availability and business continuity solutions.
Cloud Database Operations
- Support Oracle databases hosted within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Administer and support database services running within AWS RDS.
- Assist with cloud migration, modernisation, and optimisation initiatives.
- Monitor cloud resource utilisation and identify opportunities for performance and cost optimisation.
- Work closely with Cloud Engineering and DevOps teams to improve automation and operational efficiency.

Linux Administration
- Administer and support Linux-based servers hosting database and application components.
- Perform OS patching, upgrades, and security hardening.
- Monitor system performance, storage utilisation, and capacity planning.
- Troubleshoot operating system and infrastructure issues.
- Support automation through scripting and configuration management.
Operational Support
- Participate in an on-call rota for critical services.
- Manage incidents, problems, and changes in accordance with ITIL processes.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
- Work collaboratively with development, infrastructure, security, and support teams.
To be successful you should bring:
Oracle
- Extensive experience administering Oracle Database environments.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Oracle 12c, 19c, and later versions
- RMAN
- Oracle Data Guard
- Database performance tuning
- Backup and recovery strategies
- Oracle security and auditing
- Experience supporting large-scale production databases.
Cloud Platforms
- Proven experience supporting databases in:
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- AWS RDS
- Understanding of cloud networking, security, and monitoring concepts.
- Experience of cloud migrations and platform transformation projects.
Linux
- Strong Linux system administration experience (Oracle Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, or equivalent).
- Experience with:
- Shell scripting (Bash)
- System monitoring and troubleshooting
- User and access management
- Patching and package management
- Storage and filesystem administration
Technical Skills
- SQL and PL/SQL troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with automation and scripting.
- Strong understanding of high-availability architectures.
- Experience with monitoring tools and operational dashboards.
- Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and testing.
Additional desirable qualities:
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure certifications.
- AWS certifications.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or similar automation technologies.
- Experience supporting SaaS or multi-tenant platforms.
- Knowledge of container technologies and Kubernetes.
- Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD practices.
