Are you a Oral Surgery Scrub Nurse with experience in post-anaesthetic or perioperative care, looking for additional weekend work? Here at 18 Week Support, we have an exciting opportunity to support a well-established NHS Trust in the Midlands region within a busy Oral Surgery service.
This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced theatre and recovery teams in a well-supported, patient-focused environment while benefiting from flexible additional sessions.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating/surgical room and ensure all necessary instruments, equipment, and materials are available.
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field throughout oral surgery procedures.
- Anticipate the surgeon's requirements and pass instruments, sutures, and other surgical materials efficiently.
- Assist with procedures such as surgical tooth extractions, impacted teeth removal, biopsies, implant-related surgery, and other oral surgical procedures, depending on the service.
- Carry out instrument and swab counts in accordance with local trust policy.
- Check and prepare surgical instruments and equipment before procedures.
- Maintain strict infection prevention and control standards.
- Assist with specimen handling, labelling, and documentation where required.
- Work closely with the surgeon, anaesthetic/recovery staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Respond appropriately to changes or complications during surgery and escalate concerns promptly.
- Complete accurate clinical documentation and comply with relevant NHS/private healthcare policies and procedures.
- Assist with cleaning, decontamination, and safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy, safety, and confidentiality at all times.

Requirements:

- Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration.
- Current experience working within a surgical setting for a minimum of 6 months within the last 12 months.
- Proven NHS experience.
- Experience working within surgical wards or theatre environments is desirable.
