SJC Partners are partnering with a boutique advisory firm to recruit a hungry, entrepreneurial individual to build a career in deal origination.

The firm is an entrepreneurial advisory firm that works with ambitious management teams to acquire and grow businesses, supporting MBOs, MBIs and buy-and-build strategies. They are looking to appoint an Origination Executive to help identify and develop the next generation of investment opportunities.

The Role

The successful candidate will sit at the front end of the investment process, identifying businesses and, crucially, the management teams and entrepreneurs who could be capable of acquiring and growing them. Using a combination of data platforms, company research, LinkedIn, AI and emerging technology, you will develop creative ways of finding high-quality businesses and management teams that fit the firm's investment criteria.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The successful individual will:

  • Identify and research target businesses across a range of sectors
  • Use data and technology to build highly targeted prospect lists
  • Identify CEOs, MDs, management teams and potential acquisition entrepreneurs
  • Develop creative approaches to finding opportunities that may not be actively marketed
  • Initiate contact and build relationships with business owners and senior executives
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of potential investment opportunities
  • Work closely with the investment team to qualify and progress opportunities
  • Continuously test new tools, data sources and approaches to improve origination

Who Are They Looking For?

Whilst experience in M&A, private equity, investment banking, corporate finance or a related environment would be an advantage, the firm is equally open to candidates from broader backgrounds who can demonstrate the right transferable skills and, above all, the hunger to succeed. This opportunity is ultimately about attitude, ambition and desire. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys understanding businesses and the people behind them, is comfortable approaching senior individuals and has the persistence to develop relationships over time. You should be ambitious, entrepreneurial and resilient, with a genuine desire to build a career in origination. You will be given the tools and environment to develop - but the drive and determination need to come from you.
