Senior Ornithology Consultant

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 + Benefits

Are you an experienced ornithologist looking to take the next step in your consultancy career? Do you enjoy combining technical expertise with client engagement whilst contributing to sustainable development and environmental stewardship?

An established environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ornithology Consultant to support a diverse portfolio of projects across terrestrial, coastal and offshore environments.

The Role

You will play a key role in delivering ornithology projects from inception through to completion, including:

  • Preparing fee proposals and tenders.
  • Managing and coordinating ornithology surveys.
  • Analysing and interpreting bird survey data.
  • Producing high-quality technical reports, including baseline studies, EcIA and HRA documentation.
  • Providing specialist ornithological advice to clients, regulators and project stakeholders.
  • Supporting multidisciplinary teams on large infrastructure and development projects.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior colleagues to maintain high technical standards across the team.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • Strong knowledge of ornithology, bird ecology and behaviour.
  • Experience contributing to or leading EcIA and HRA reports.
  • The ability to interpret and present ornithological data within the planning process.
  • Experience managing projects to programme and budget.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
  • A collaborative mindset and a passion for delivering high-quality work.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Specialist ornithological survey techniques.
  • GIS/QGIS for data analysis and presentation.
  • Statistical analysis using R.
  • Knowledge of the UK planning and consenting process.
  • Previous consultancy experience with commercial awareness.
